Shannon McCabe Gains a New Title
Senior, Shannon McCabe, earned the PIAA girls AA Champion Diving title on March 17th. She finished out her senior season at Bucknell University and finished strong. Her hard work has paid off and we’re Bulldog Proud! Congratulations to Shannon!
Blake Barrick finishes High School Wrestling Career
Senior, Blake Barrick, finished his High School Wrestling Career on March 9th competing at States. He had a very successful wrestling career with a 128-30 record. Congratulations to Blake!
Wrestling Team Visits Elementary School
On March 2nd, the wrestling team took a trip to Newville Elementary to read to our young bulldogs. They got to read to the students on Dr Seuss’s birthday!
Law Class Skypes with Expert
On the 1st of March, the Honors Law II class skyped with forensic scientists from the Virginia Department of Forensic Science. It was a great learning opportunity for students to interact with outside experts!
Swimming goes to Districts
The swimming boys team placed 7th in the 200 on March 2nd.
Senior, Jackson Penner, placed 7th place in the breast stroke at Districts!
Jackson Penner, Dain Vallie, Brennan Flory, and Ian Ward placed 8th place in their 400 relay.
Music in our Schools
On March 6th, all of our Big Spring schools brought their talent together for a great concert! We had musicians from Kindergarten to 12th Grade.This is a great annual tradition that occurs through our Music Department.
Senior Students receive CNA Diplomas
Senior students, Mikala Gutshall and Cassidy Barrick, received their CNA diplomas on March 8th. Congratulations!
Shippensburg University Music Ensembles Visit Big Spring Musicians
On March 9th, the Shippensburg University Wind Ensemble visited our student musicians. They were conducted under Professor Trever Famulare. This was a great opportunity!
Club C.A.R.E. Dodgeball Tournament
On March 10th was the 12th Annual Dodgeball Tournament hosted by Club C.A.R.E. This year, the proceeds of the tournament went to the choral and music teacher in our Middle School, Ms. Lori Shover, who has been diagnosed with a type of brain cancer. The team that won the tournament last year won the tournament this year too. The team included Nick Black, AJ Farlling, Peyton Bechtold, Ethan Lee, Ryan Adams, and Joey Yaukey.
College & Career Fair
We had a College and Career fair at Big Spring on March 14th. On a schedule, all of the grades had the opportunity to go down to the gym and visit the large number of colleges, military, and local employers hiring for career options, summer employment, and internships.

FFA Public Speaking Contest
31 FFA members traveled to the Cumberland-Dauphin-Perry County Area FFA Public Speaking contest on Tuesday, March 13th, with hopes of earning their way to the regional competition. Our bulldogs battled more than 150 members from 8 different schools for 15 individual and 1 team qualifying position for the next level. We are so proud of each and every one of them, and we are extremely pleased to announce the following qualifiers:

Skylar Diehl was selected for a Great Opportunity
Junior Musician, Skylar Diehl, is the first student from Big Spring selected to participate in the Cavalcade of Bands Rose Parade Honor Band. She will be marching on New Year's Day 2019. Congratulations Skylar!
Maggie Byers places at Math Competition
Congratulations to Maggie Byers for her 2nd place standing at this year's MAA American Math Competition held at Penn State Mont Alto on February 15, 2018.
Samantha Meacock places at National History Day
Samantha Meacock earned first place at National History Day for her Senior Individual Exhibit on Mira Lloyd Dock. Samantha will be entering her exhibit at the National Competition at the University of Maryland, College Park on June 10-14. Congratulations to Sami for all her hard work and dedication to National History Day over the last 7 years.
Bulldog becomes an Eagle
Junior, Preston Howe, earned his Boy Scout Eagle Rank. To honor this achievement, the American flag was flown at the Harrisburg capitol is in his honor on Friday March 9, 2018.
Hunter Branyan gets recognition for carpentry experience
Congratulations to Hunter Branyan. Hunter received the Pennsylvania Foundation for Housing (Foundation) and Pennsylvania Builders Association (PBA) Endorsed Trade Program Student Recognition Award for his hard work and dedication to learning the carpentry trade. This program helps to strengthen the local residential building construction program and related fields.

State FFA Legislative Leadership Conference
On March 20th, FFA students concluded a great week at the State FFA Legislative Leadership Conference by having breakfast with legislators. They were accompanied by Senator Eichelberger, Representative Tallman, and Representative Bloom. The three day conference engaged students in a mock legislative session, complete with committees, House and Senate, majority and minority, and current bills from PA legislation.
Congrats to senior, Cory Latchford for being selected by his peers, the more than 400 students present at the conference, as the inaugural recipient of the Founder's Award - Outstanding Member of the House of Representatives! This award recognizes Cory for excellence in participation throughout the conference,for kindness exhibited towards others, for his willingness to help teach and educate his peers, and for upholding the ethics of an FFA Member. Cory was the chair of the House Education Committee during the simulation, representing the majority party.
In addition, senior, Morgan Bear was selected as one of only six members from across the state to serve as a second-year scholar for the conference. In her role, which began in February, she assisted the state officer team in planing and executing the conference, provided reflections to attendees on Sunday night, and chaired sessions of the legislative simulation. Congratulations to Morgan on this great honor!
