Dear HSPS School Community:
I hope that everyone's school year is off to a great start! School meal programs nationwide are experiencing many of the same supply chain issues that have impacted restaurants and grocery stores throughout the pandemic. Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students continue to have access to healthy meals each school day.
Just as families have to make substitutions on grocery lists, we may have to make some last-minute changes to our menus, based on product availability. We will do our best to communicate menu changes in a timely manner. We may not have the same number of menu choices we would like to offer our students, but we will be sure that all students are nourished and ready to learn.
We hope parents and students will be patient as we sort through these supply chain issues.
Sincerely,
Cathy Clarke
Food Service Director

News from Physical Education & Health
We started off the year at Shay working on a couple recess games and talking about Respect & Sportsmanship. Students are now moving into a foot skills unit using soccer balls. 2nd-4th graders have all had their first Health lesson. Each grade is focusing on the Social Emotional unit from the Michigan Model Curriculum to start the year off. Ask your child about what they learned in Heath for their first lesson.
At Blackbird we are working on moving in personal space. They are using fast walking and other locomotor skills during games to keep others safe while we move about the gym. Students will be moving into a foot skills unit as well in the coming weeks.
Blackbird & Shay Parents, please double check your child's specials schedule. It is really important that they have athletic style shoes for PE. It is very hard for students to move around in dress shoes, boots, and sandals effectively. Also, at Shay our floor was refinished this summer and we would like to keep it nice throughout the school year. Thank you for making sure your child has appropriate shoes for PE.
If you have any questions about PE or Health, please feel free to reach out to me. You can email me at kholzschu@harborps.org.
Have a great weekend!
