RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS SPIRIT WEEK
Hello SWG Families!
Did you know that Random Acts of Kindness Day is coming on February 17, 2024!? A random act of kindness is a simple, unexpected act that brightens someone’s day. Please help us celebrate and spread kindness by encouraging your student to participate in our Random Acts of Kindness spirit week this week, February 12-15, 2024. See the image below for the spirit days. You will also see that we are collecting kindness notes/drawings for SWG staff all week!
Each day there will also be a kindness challenge for students and staff, as chosen by the Lion Leadership Purple Team. Here are the daily kindness challenges:
Monday 2/12: Today the kindness challenge is to give 3 people a compliment. When you are welcoming, friendly, and kind to others, people want to be around you. Being kind to others is one of the best ways to make and keep friends!
Tuesday 2/13: Today the kindness challenge is to pick up trash when you see it laying around. Being kind to the earth is important too, as 250 million tons of trash is generated each year in the U.S. The most common litter includes plastic bags, paper, candy wrappers, fast-food packaging, and plastic straws. If every person in the United States picked up just one piece of litter today, there would be over 300 million fewer pieces of litter. Although we can’t control what others do, we CAN control what we do at Southwood Glen! Picking up trash is good for the environment, makes us feel proud, and makes a huge impact on our community!
Wednesday 2/14: Today the kindness challenge is to really focus on KHAFOOTY. KHAFOOTY means that you keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. When we control our body it makes other people feel happy and safe… and it makes us feel happy too!
Thursday 2/15: Today the kindness challenge is to write kindness notes to three people that you want to celebrate, thank, or encourage– this could be a friend, family member, or anyone in the community! Kindness notes are a quick and easy way to practice kindness. Whether you are recognizing a specific act of kindness or just reminding someone how special they are, these little notes can create a big impact and will benefit both the person getting the notes and you too!!
Thank you for encouraging your student to participate in both the spirit days and daily kindness challenges! Following up on the daily kindness challenges are great conversations to have during dinner, in the car while driving to practice, etc. Thank you for helping us make kindness the norm!
CANNED FOOD DRIVE
In the spirit of spreading kindness, the Lion Leadership Purple Team has also organized a food drive throughout February to benefit the Hunger Task Force. We are collecting non-perishable canned foods, like peaches, pears, corn, and beans… just to name a few! Our school goal is 400 canned food donations, which is about equivalent to each SWG student bringing 1 item. Do you think we can do it!? We will be collecting donations in the designated boxes by the gym foyer and by the main office from February 5-23, 2024. We are excited to make a difference in our community and see if we can reach our goal!!
