New: EVHS Mock Trial Competes in Statewide Regional Competition
Eastview Mock Trial opened Round 1 of the statewide Regional Competition Tuesday, January 10. Both teams will compete in 4 rounds, with the top teams advancing to Round 5 to determine State Tournament qualifiers. This year’s case has teams litigating whether a career-ending second ACL tear to a Gopher swimming star is the fault of the doctor who performed the original surgery, or due to the swimmer not following the rehab plan for recovery.
Before a two-judge panel at the historic Ramsey County Courthouse in St. Paul, Eastview Blue defeated Parnassus Preparatory Academy by a 28-point margin. Senior Co-Captain Anna Singh was tabbed as “Best Attorney” for her successful defense of Senior Co-Captain Shruti Chandrasekar, who was named “Best Witness” for that trial. Mia Noonan and Momo Lee showed poise with their convincing witness portrayals. Aavi Singh and Ebrahim Mohamed rounded out the attorney team, with strong cross exams of the plaintiff witnesses, and Aavi’s sharp closing argument finished off the evening. Cora Budziszewski kept things running smoothly as timekeeper and bailiff.
Eastview Silver, representing the Plaintiff swimming star, dropped a tough round against Visitation School. Senior Shara Ande (Gopher swim team coach) and Ahloa Carruthers-Delong (representing the injured star swimmer) were named “Best Witness” and “Best Attorney,” respectively. Team members Sneha Narra, Nandini Ghadge, Rashid Essa, Naomi Efrem and Dawson Gross put up a strong case.
The teams will be back in St. Paul next Tuesday evening for Round 2.
