TPS Families -
May once again brings State Testing to our schools. This is the first NJSLA testing since COVID closed our schools back in 2020 and is having an even bigger impact on our students than normal. We ask everyone to eat well, get enough sleep, and simply do your best. Please see the calendar on our district website for testing details.
Last week was filled with events that brought us outdoors and we are grateful that the weather cooperated with us. On Thursday, all six of our schools and our central office worked together to walk 6,000,000 steps in silence to remember the six million lives lost during the Holocaust and remind ourselves of everything for which we are grateful. If you have not seen the video of the event, please visit our district website. The event affected all involved and will lead up to our Celebration of Diversity this June. More details to come soon.
On Friday, Smith School celebrated Arbor Day with our Mayor and Council and the planting of a beautiful new magnolia tree near the building. The new tree replaces one that was lost during Hurricane Ida last fall.
Finally, we are in the busiest time of our school year with testing, concerts, read-a-thons, art shows, and so much more. Please be sure to check the district calendar often for dates, times, locations and any potential changes.
Have a wonderful week.
Yours in Education,
Shauna C. DeMarco

May 23rd - Regular Public Meeting
One Book, One Community
In conjunction with a spring-time Celebration of Diversity, we would like to do a District-Wide Read Aloud, One Book, One Community (K-12, all staff, and families). We have selected the title, Wishtree, by Katherine Applegate, a story about overcoming diversity and hate in one small community.
Tenafly students, parents, teachers, and staff will come together to discuss the themes and messages in the text including diversity, empathy, inclusion, acceptance and community. The author, Katherine Applegate, is excited for Tenafly to be highlighted as an “All Are Welcome Here” community and she hopes to participate in our book talk at our celebration.
Change to District Calendar - Schools Closed on May 26th
Each year, our district builds several snow days into the school calendar. At the April 25th BOE Meeting, the Board voted to approve changing the 2021-2022 school district calendar to give back an unused snow day, making Thursday, May 26th a Schools Closed day and Friday, May 27th a District Closed day. The website calendar has been updated.
