Lancer Pageant Update - Each year a group of Churchill students (10 senior contestants and a number of coordinators) work extremely hard for three to four months to raise as much money as possible for this incredible organization called Children's Miracle Network. The Lancer Pageant does this through organizing fundraisers and partnering with local businesses as well as holding a car wash and a Bunco night. Our largest fundraiser is the Lancer Pageant, which is an entertaining, knock-off beauty pageant where our ten contestants dance and do skits. 100% of the fundraising proceeds stay locally in Lane County, and specifically go to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend. Last year we raised over $25,000 for the children in our community, and as a group we have set our goal to be $31,000 this year!
Upcoming Lancer Pageant Events:
March 26th: BJ's Restaurant Fundraiser
April 6th: Dodgeball Tournament @CHS Gymnasium, time is TBD
April 12th: The Lancer Pageant, 7:00 PM, @Churchill Auditorium
Churchill Library Update
Remember to Return Your Trimester 2 Textbooks to the Library. Students should not return any textbooks to their teachers. Instead, students must return all textbooks to the Churchill library. The Churchill library does not charge overdue fines for library books or textbooks. However, students must promptly return their books for us to be able to continue this policy. If a student cannot find their textbook or library book, they must pay the replacement cost.
Textbook Renewal. If students need to use the same textbook during third trimester, students should stop by the library and renew these books. Students do not have to physically bring in their textbooks to renew them.
Students Are Responsible For All Books They Borrow. This is a reminder that students are responsible for all textbooks and library books they borrow at Churchill. Students should never leave their books in their classrooms or loan a Churchill book to a friend.
Remember to Bring Your Student ID Card to the Library. Using your Student ID card during textbook checkout speeds up the process and ensures accuracy. Students who spend their free period in the library should also carry their Student ID card and make sure it has the free period sticker on the back. Students can get the free period sticker from the Front Office.
New Books! The library has hundreds of new books, including some of the most popular young adult books! Don't forget to check out our basketball and video game book displays!
Guest Speakers - Protocol Review
As we continue through the school year we need to review protocols from time to time, if anything to remind ourselves of good practices. Additionally, this specific protocol ensures that we are vetting our guest speakers and ensuring the highest quality and professional experience we can offer students.
Community Educators (Guest Speakers) and Outside Presenters
We recognize that guest speakers and outside presenters are a valuable resource for enriching district curricula. Community presenters and guest speakers must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Information presented must be educational, not promotional.
- Presenters are prohibited from gathering personally identifying information from students. It is allowable for presenters to post their name, the name of the organization with which they are affiliated, and phone number, email address, or other contact information. This contact information should be given in a neutral way. It can remain posted throughout the presentation and shall be removed when the presentation is over.
- The information presented should be age appropriate and relevant to curriculum and classroom instruction.
- The information must be presented in a neutral and nondiscriminatory manner.
- District representatives have a responsibility for vetting and supervision of guest speakers and outside presenters. Building administrators have the authority to cancel or stop presentations deemed to be inappropriate.
- Parents have and maintain the right to opt their students out of these presentations. Students are to be provided equitable opportunities and may not be graded down or penalized for opting out.

Kudos
Last week I sent a shout out to IHS teachers and I missed two most very important staff member and I feel terrible. Special recognition for Deon Saraceno and Amy Duncan. Thank you both for you inspiration and commitment to students. I genuinely appreciate you both. Mia culpa!
Kudos from Debbie to the Churchill Oregon Battle of the Books team for making it to the regional semi-finals, the only 3-player team to make it that far. Rylan Kateley, Raethen Riley and Margaret Sprado each read 8-12 books and spent months preparing for the competition. They wound up losing by just one question to Creswell, which swept regionals and is moving on to the state tournament. Several other players and coaches commented how nice, respectful and fun our team was at the battles. I'm proud of our students for exhibiting Lancer PRIDE.
