Reminder about student email!
Remind your child to be in the habit of checking their student email every day. Oftentimes, students are requesting to meet with me on google meet, but they do not accept the invite I send them in an email. If I send a follow-up email to this request, I get no response. Or they ask me a question, but do not respond further in the communication. If they have not joined my google classroom, the next best way I can share info with them is through email. It’s important for them to develop good communication habits with email now as this will be very important in high school and beyond.
The Benefits of Gratitude
Science is proving that giving thanks, expressing gratitude, for something or someone, or something someone has done, can make you happier! Have you genuinely expressed gratitude today? Gratitude can help build stronger relationships at home, at work, and in the community. Making other people feel appreciated is so important to the spread of positive psychology. Try it with your kids, your spouse, your friends and family, your colleagues at work, and your neighbors!
Practicing Gratitude Daily:
- improves physical health
- improves psychological health
- improves sleep
- increases empathy
- reduces aggression
- builds social connections
- enhances self esteem
- improves mental strength
Try these activities at home:
- Attitude of Gratitude: https://youtu.be/JMd1CcGZYwU
- Gratitude jar: https://www.health.com/mind-body/tapping-into-gratitude when you are feeling down you can read some of the slips of paper in the jar. Try this as a family! Celebrate when the jar is full and start over again!
- Gratitude journal: find a notebook or journal you can use to write down five sentences about one person, place or thing that you’re grateful for every day. The trick is to be specific about why you are grateful.
- Gratitude rock: find a small smooth rock you can hold, carry, or even wear on a necklace. When you hold or touch the rock, focus your mind on people, places, or things you are grateful for.
- My favorite** Gratitude tree: https://youtu.be/WcNoq8GL6tY What a great idea for a family project on Thanksgiving! Or any holiday!

Hello Parents! I would like to say to all the students that are back in the building WELCOME BACK! It was so nice to see your faces in class on today! We are finishing up our unit on Matter this week. A study guide has been uploaded on Canvas. We will be working on the study guide in class over the next two days. The assessment on Matter will be taken on Thursday in class. The next unit of study will be Energy: Conservation and Transfer. This will include 8.P.2. Students will be learning about renewable and nonrenewable energy ,obtaining, maintaining and using energy.
MR. HOOPER - MATH
MR. DOWNUM - SOCIAL STUDIES
First off welcome back to all my friends who are back in class with the eighth grade team!! It is nice to put a face to the name after months of seeing just icons. I am sure there are going to be some bumps in the road, however, I know the eighth grade team will work it out. Please have patience with us as we all navigate this stressful time.
This week we will be finishing up our unit on The American Revolution with a quiz on Friday. Please make sure that you're having the students study from the notes and the hyperdoc that they completed on the topic. We will have a review session the day before the test in which I give the students all of the questions on the quiz. Next week we will start the longest unit that we cover this year and that is the formation of the government.
I want to wish all of you a happy holiday season and hope that you have a peaceful time and are able to celebrate a little time with friends and family any way that you can. As always if you need me for anything just email me at daviddownum@fcschools.net.
7TH GRADE TEAM UPDATES
MS. BAECHLE - 7th GRADE ELA
Happy Monday students and families and welcome back to FMS!! Today we will begin the transition to Plan B and have students back in the school. Pay close attention to the school calendar for the months of November and December as some days will change in schedule due to the Holidays. A days will be each Monday and Tuesday, Asynchronous Wednesdayswill stay the same, and B days will be each Thursday and Friday. When you are not in school and for those learning from home, you will still be on Google meets daily.
For the weeks of 11/16-11/25 we will be concluding our first text, “A Long Walk to Water,” with a strong central focus on comparing a non-fictional text “ALWTW,” to a fictional anchor film “The Good Lie,” to see what similarities occur within both. We will then be covering some background information on the “Industrial Revolution,” and beginning or second text “Lyddie.”
Parents/guardians, please make sure to have your students check Power school regularly to see what work they are missing. It is critical that ALL students take accountability for their work, come to class regularly, and turn in work on a consistent basis. Work can still be made up and students will receive full credit.
In addition, I have new office hours weekly on Wednesdays from 9:00-10:00am, for any additional support with work. The code on Google meets is: fmsoffice7. Please encourage your child to read a text of interest for at least 20 minutes daily to further enhance their reading comprehension skills, and to develop a lifelong love for reading and learning! If you have any further questions please contact me at: kimberlybaechle@fcschools.net
