Principal's Update
Welcome Back to School! August 16, 2021
First Day of School is Wednesday, August 18, 2021
Dear Viking Families,
Our Crocker educators and I are excited to partner with our parents in the year ahead as we care for your children and each other. As a community of learners, we will live the HCSD essential outcomes through inclusive student-centered instructional practices of social-emotional learning and engaging standards-based academic instruction. We will work together to provide a safe, caring, learning community for our middle-schoolers during these changing and challenging times.
Happy New School Year,
Principal Maria Brady

Health and Safety
At Crocker, we are following the best path to safe and full in-person instruction at the outset of the school year:
Encourage vaccination for all eligible individuals.
More targeted quarantine practices to support keeping students in school.
Access to the COVID-19 testing program for staff and students.
Recent evidence indicates that in-person instruction can occur safely without minimum physical distancing requirements when other mitigation strategies (e.g., masking) are implemented.
attention to physical distancing should occur when eating or drinking recommend (2-3) feet social distancing and shorten eating to 15 minutes for lunch
PE students will not change for the first 2-3 weeks of school ( this will allow time to go over COVID protocols and PE rituals and routines and prepare locker room and lockers for use)
Universal masking in schools, which enables no minimum physical distancing, allowing all students access to full in-person learning.
Masking indoors for all staff and students.
Mask-wearing is highly encouraged and recommended for all students and staff outdoors.
Band/Choir students will practice social distancing, wear (specialized band) masks, practice outside as practicable.
Encourage social distancing if unmasked for outdoor PE.
Here are several ways in which parents can support safe and full in-person instruction:
Monitor your child daily for symptoms of illness using this Home Based Symptom Screening tool excerpted from the CDC. Always keep a sick child at home.
Please report illnesses accurately to Marianne Saucedo at crockerabsence@hcsdk8.org
Follow the recommended travel guidelines upon return from travel.
Gently remind your child to follow the handwashing and masking protocols with fidelity.
At this time, we are not hosting parent volunteers. Soon, we will gladly welcome parent volunteers. We kindly request that parent volunteers are vaccinated.
Per HCSD School Reopening Plan, CPHD, and CDC Pandemic Recovery Framework, the above "guidance is designed to enable all schools to offer and provide full in-person instruction to all students safely, consistent with the current scientific evidence about COVID-19, even if pandemic dynamics shift throughout the school year, affected by vaccination rates and the potential emergence of viral variants."
