Message from the Principal
Dear Families:
What a terrific week we have had at MSES this week! Our fifth graders, budding scientists, displayed their work at the Science Fair on Thursday. Their work showed critical thinking, thoughtfulness and hard work. Their work will be on display at the School of Excellence on April 20th. Please join us!
First grade hosted a magical performance of Sleeping Beauty. The students performed a new rendition of Sleeping Beauty, put together by MSHS teacher Wendy Harms. The auditorium was filled with fun and laughter.
Dianne Derby from KOAA came to Ms. Marquardt's class to learn about reading after the pandemic. Her goal is to tell a story about how teachers got creative after the pandemic to promote literacy throughout the state of Colorado.
This next week we begin CMAS testing for grades 3, 4 and 5. CMAS, Colorado Measures of Academic Success, is an assessment tool that public schools in the state of Colorado use to ensure that students are learning. The intermediate grades are assessed in reading and math. Fifth grade is the only participating in Science.
Thank you for sharing your children with us!
Warmly,
Maria

5th graders are just finishing their CKLA poetry unit with a comprehension check on a poem, and (another) poem to write on a specific theme. We are waiting on starting our new CKLA unit, as we have a couple busy weeks with Science Fair and state testing. This week, all 75 5th grade students participated in Science Fair, presenting their 2 month long self-chosen question/experiment to visiting judges. We appreciate all the support from staff members in the building, and especially all the support from families. We are so proud of all the hard work from the students.
Ask your expert: How did your judging go? Were you surprised by any of the questions? Is there anything you would do differently if you did your experiment again? Did anyone else's project stand out to you?
Next week starts state testing for our 5th graders: reading and science. We don't want this to be any stress to our students, just to try their best. Be sure to rest up, have a good breakfast everyday, and celebrate how hard the students work!

Tech Corner: Email Etiquette
Good email etiquette is like good manners at a dinner party - it might not seem important, but it can make or break the experience for everyone involved!
Email has become an essential part of communication in today's digital world. It's fast, convenient, and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. However, the ease of email communication has also led to the rise of some common email etiquette mistakes. To avoid these mistakes and make a good impression in your professional and personal emails, it's important to follow some basic email etiquette guidelines. In this guide, we will provide you with some tips and best practices to help you communicate effectively through email and avoid common mistakes.
- Use a clear and concise subject line: Make sure your subject line summarizes the content of your email.
- Use a professional salutation: If you don't know the recipient personally, address them with their appropriate title and last name. For example, "Dear Mr. Smith" or "Dear Dr. Johnson."
- Use proper grammar and spelling: Double-check your email for typos and grammatical errors before sending it.
- Keep your message brief and to the point: Avoid writing lengthy emails and try to convey your message in a few sentences or paragraphs.
- Use a professional email signature: Include your full name, job title, and contact information at the end of your email.
- Be respectful and courteous: Use polite language and avoid using all caps, as it can come across as shouting.
- Use an appropriate tone: Consider the tone of your email and make sure it matches the context of your message.
- Avoid using slang or emoticons: Keep your language professional and avoid using slang, abbreviations, or emoticons.
- Respond promptly: Try to respond to emails within 24-48 hours, especially if it requires urgent attention.
- Use the "Reply All" option sparingly: Avoid using the "Reply All" option unless it's necessary, as it can clutter other people's inboxes.
