Amanda Valenzuela, Teacher
Years at Lincoln: 30
Favorite Educator:
I loved Mr. Henderson, my 3rd grade teacher at Kenter Canyon School. He would play the acoustic guitar and sing a couple of songs every afternoon when we came back from recess and we would draw and paint while listening. What can I say? It was the 70s. It was groovy.
Mr. John Obusek was my favorite teacher at Lincoln. He was my elective teacher. He taught Drafting and we would design and draw floor plans and things like that in the classroom that is now Wrabel's room. We just loved how he treated us like people…it wasn't what he taught or even how he taught…it was that he took the time to get to know us and joke with us.
Fun Fact: I never wanted to be a teacher..it was never a dream or vision…I never considered it, even in college, even with an English major. Then one day we were wrapping up practice on the Colorado College track team my senior year (I was only on the team that year) and my coach, Bonnie Everhart, urged me to go into teaching. I graduated, she moved back to Ohio to get her doctorate, and a few months later I moved home to Santa Monica and started attending CSUN for my credential. More than 30 years later, there is a wonderful African American professor out there in Ohio who has no idea that I ever went into teaching.
Alexis Pullard, Paraprofessional
Place of Birth: Los Angeles
Years at Lincoln: 4
Favorite Educator: My favorite educator was my 3rd grade teacher Ms. Felton. We shared a love for the singer Aaliyah and she always played her music while we did our work. To this day, I am most productive while listening to music.
Fun Fact: I love to color! It doesn’t matter if it’s on my iPad or if I use markers and crayons. It helps me relax.
