Principal's Message
Dear Thomas Families,
On Thursday, Jim “Basketball” Jones visited Thomas Elementary. Thank you to the PTO for helping to sponsor this event. It was a morning to remember!
Jim Jones amazed us with his basketball tricks (spinning a ball in so many ways!), but the true value was in his message. He talked about being aware of people around you, which can take many forms: using manners, inviting someone to play with you, cheering up someone who is sad, being helpful. The phrase he kept returning to was:
You’ve got to LOOK OUT to HELP OUT. DO SOMETHING!
What’s really insightful about this message is the way it empowers students to take action and take responsibility for their own character. We aren’t just the product of our circumstances–we have the power to make choices that can make a positive difference!
The students did a wonderful job at the assembly– 518 students packed into our gym, rapt with attention, and showing respect to our guest. And though they loved listening to Jim Jones, I think their favorite part may have been when he asked all the teachers to come to the front for a dance contest!
Go Tigers,
Melissa Garris
