We are baaackkkk!!! How exciting! Our first week of classes are in the books! Welcome to our new families and welcome back to our returning Mavericks. We are off to an amazing start and look forward to an AWESOME 2023/24 school year. We've got lots of information to share with you below including Back to School Night Dates, Family Night Out, Schedules, problem solving resources and lots more. So check out the information below for all the latest.

Principal's Message...
Welcome Back Maverick Families! We are all so excited to welcome our students back to campus as we begin the 23/24 school year. Our teachers, staff, and PTA have worked hard to prepare for the 23/24 school year. It's going to be an AWESOME year. We have all of our teachers and support staff back and fired up!
We have lots of exciting activities planned with HS orientation already in the books. As you'll see from the information below we have lots going on. High School families, have Back to School Night, College Application Workshops, PSAT for Juniors, and CSF chapter membership. For our K-8 students, we had a great first week and are loving having all of our students on campus. We've got Back to School Night this Wednesday (K-7) at 12:30 and Thursday (8th grade) along with Maverick Hangouts. So awesome.
Parents, mark your calendars for September 6th at 8:30 am for our first Principal Counselor Coffee. Also, our PTA will be present on campus at our Back to School Nights. Please consider joining the PTA and supporting the Maverick 180 campaign. The partnership with our PTA is such a critical one! Be sure to check them out at Back to School Night.

Schedule for 2023/24: Linked is the schedule for this year. K-6 students now have two in-person days per week!
- Monday: 6th in person
- Tuesday: 2-5th in person
- Wednesday: K-7th in person
- Thursday: K-1, 8th in person
Check-in: Reminder that during the first two weeks, all students are on “probationary status” and must attend all classes and labs. Please make sure your child is checking in the with teacher daily during this time.
Assignments: All assignments for the week are due TODAY, Friday, August 18 by 5:00 PM.
Maverick Hangout + BTSN: This coming Wednesday, August 23rd at 12:30 is Back to School Night(Day) for all parents and the first Maverick Hangout of the 23/24 school year for students. This is a can't miss event for both students and parents.

- Tuesdays: 8th online 8:30-10:30 / 7th optional online office hours 11:00-12:00
- Wednesdays: 6th/7th in-person 8:30-12:30 / 8th optional online office hours 1:30-2:00
- Thursdays: 8th in-person 8:30-12:30/7th optional online office hours 1:30-2:00
- Fridays: ALL Assignments due by 5PM
Back to School Night(Day): Middle School students back to school night will be next week per the schedule below.

Live Sessions Begin Monday: Classes begin this Monday. Be sure to review the schedule to make sure you know when the live sessions are for your classes.
Computer Support/Trick: Many of our students have struggled with uploading some of the apps, specifically google chrome. Mr. David created a video to help you fix the problem. Check it out! The key is to make sure you've updated your computer. Also, remember you must be logged into the internet to access your computer when off campus.
College Application Workshops: Begining September 1st and every other week through the month of September, Mr. David and Mrs. Wijnhamer will be hosting a College Application Workshop from 8-12 in Room P31. This will be dedicated time with Mr. David and Mrs. W to help with your applications! See the flyer for more information.
Exciting Math Offering for 2023/24: This fall, Tustin Connect is partnering with IVC to offer pre-calculus and calculus math clases. It's an exciting opportunity for students to get both high school and college credit without having to pass/take AP exams. See the flyer for more details and email Mrs. Wijnhamer (rwijnhamer@tustin.k12.ca.us) as well.

Hello Maverick Families-
The 23/24 School Year has arrived and we are looking forward to a fantastic school year. We have many new faces as well as all of your favorites and are always looking for additional families to support our school. We look forward to meeting all of our families at our Back to School Nights. We will have tables set up so please take a moment to say hi and join your PTA.
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 23rd for our first PTA Spirit Day at Handels Ice Cream store. Come by and get some ice cream, see some fellow Mavericks and know that 20% of your purchase comes back to our school.

Counselor Corner: Resources and link to workshops and more!!!
Our Principal/Counselor Coffees are back by popular demand. We look forward to sharing important insights with you all and strategies to support your students throughout the year along with timely infomration. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 6th at 8:30 am for our first Coffee with the Principal/Counselor. In order to make the meetings meaningful, we ask that you take a moment to complete the Parent Needs Assessment. This quick survey will drive our topics throughout the school year.
Tustin Connect has our own, CSF (California Scholarship Federation) Chapter. Please check out the flyer with important details including what is CSF along with scholarship opportunities. Students can access the CSF Application using this link. Applications are due by 4:00PM on Friday, September 1st.
Juniors- Practice SATs are coming soon. Be on the lookout for a sign up email on Monday, August 21st. If you are interested in taking the PSAT and would like to request testing accommodations that are written on your 504 plan or IEP plan, please contact Mrs. W as soon as possible.
Seniors- Graduation checks with Mrs. W are due by September 15th. If you have not yet scheduled a graduation check, please call Mrs. Griego (714) 430-2052 to schedule.
First Maverick Hangout of 2023/24! - We will be having our first Maverick Hangout for students during Back to School day this Wednesday, August 23rd at 12:30!
Our Counselor and Mental Health team have a great website with lots of resources to check out. The team is busy planning our next Principal Cofffe on Executive Functioning and Planning for an Independent Study setting. Check back soon for more details.
Free Online Tutoring Available for K-12 Students
Brainfuse HelpNow is an on demand, anytime, anywhere eLearning platform available for all ages and levels. Last week, it was announced that every Californian can now access free online tutoring available 24/7 through a new initiative offering homework help in every K-12 subject and skill-building resources for K-12 and adult learners.
Real-time homework assistance can now be accessed 24/7 here and on the websites of any of the 1,130 local public libraries around the state – click on the “HelpNow” link to reach a one-on-one tutor. The pilot program led by the State Library offers assistance in Math, Language Arts, and other core K-12 subjects in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. There’s no age limit to who can use the service. Adult learners can also access writing assistance, citizenship resources and other tools.

TUSD Resource Sora Summer Read
Sora Sweet Reads in an annual summer reading program designed for schools to encourage students to keep reading all year long. "Check out" the free collection of simultaneous use juvenile and young adult ebooks (and select audiobooks).
Login to Sora to access these and many any other great ebooks and audiobooks all summer long through Clever, TUSD Student Portal or soraapp.com using your TUSD Google login and password.
