It was a hectic week with trips near and far. The schedules were adjusted, and we'll be sure to return to our regular programs on Monday. A few deadlines are soon, and many pictures from Scranton students' adventures are included in this week's newsletter.

The 7th grade Detroit Princess Riverboat Cruise will be on Tuesday, June 13. This 7th-grade end-of-year celebration includes a lunch buffet and DJ entertainment. We will provide transportation from SMS during the day and then return in time for students to either take the bus home or be picked up by a parent at 2:45 p.m. The trip costs $50 per student, including the cruise, lunch, and transportation.

You can prepay for this event on Parent Connect. Sign on to your account and select your student. Select “Accounts” on the left side of the screen. This will take you to the section where you can select “Online SBA Payments” on the right side of the screen. From there you can select your student again and the “Item” to pay for. If you have any questions, you can call Scranton School Office at 810-299-3700.

Brighton Area Schools is supporting the downtown Brighton businesses by having a "Believe In Brighton" Spirit Day on Thursday June 1st. Order your shirt by May 19th to receive it in time for the event!

“Buy, Build, Believe In Brighton" was a marketing campaign started by Brighton businesses in 1927. "Believe In Brighton" is a recreation of that campaign to promote downtown. Businesses on Main Street are going through a tough spot with construction and need your help. It’s time to give back to the businesses that continuously support the schools & community through donations, programs, or sponsorships of events year after year. All proceeds from apparel purchased for the Believe In Brighton Spirit Day will go back to the marketing efforts to drive traffic to downtown businesses throughout the summer of 2023. Believe In Brighton is a project organized by the volunteer Board of Directors of the Taste of Brighton non-profit.

Our daily Advisory time is a fifteen-minute touchpoint scheduled after the second hour. The SMS staff will provide activities for our students that focus on fostering connections, student wellness, and growing our positive building and district culture.

Advisory is set in advance on a month-to-month basis with the activities sent out by Mr. Renner and Mr. Borg. In addition, Advisory is where we will do our daily announcements and building/district-wide community service projects, as well as structured activities such as grade checks and goal setting.

Calling all K-8th grade entrepreneurs! Sign up for your FREE spot at The Children's Entrepreneurship Fair in downtown Brighton! Kids – Create a product or service, design your booth, set your pricing, and then sell to real customers at this one-day public fair on Saturday, June 3, 10am - noon. As a district we are increasing our efforts to support the Mental Health and Wellness of our students, families and the community by focusing on Relationships, Student Wellness, and Increasing a Mindset for Learning and Growth. Each week we will share a Tip/Resource.

The county launched a program to offer free parent coaching through the Cook Foundation. As we all navigate the daunting but amazing role of being a parent, this is a resource that we could lean on for support and/or advice. Cafeteria

Students will have a lunch period each full school day. A free or reduced cost government lunch

program is available to families who meet certain requirements. For information regarding the free or

reduced cost lunch program, please call the school office.

Cafeteria Rules

1. Eating shall be permitted only in the cafeteria and in areas prescribed by the adult in charge.

2. Unacceptable behavior (throwing food, shoving and pushing, etc.) will result in disciplinary

action.

3. Students may go outside every day, weather permitting.

4. Once a student has left the cafeteria for the recreation area, he/she may not re-enter the

cafeteria without permission. Students may not leave the cafeteria without permission from a

lunchroom supervisor.
