Did you know?

The Social Host Law makes it illegal to furnish alcohol to persons under 21 years old. A "social host" is an adult OR minor in control of the premises, who provides or allows alcohol to be consumed on the premises. Someone who breaks the law - whether and adult or a minor - can be charged up to $2,000 in fines and/or spend up to 1 year in jail.

Literary Nonfiction Infographics

Mr. Joyce and Mrs. Miller's eighth-grade students recently created infographics as a culmination to their Literary Nonfiction Unit. Students did a wonderful job exploring a variety of texts and building connections across several texts. They read for stamina and showed that they are flexible, resilient readers.

A Book Tasting

Before the holiday break, Mrs. Gay's seventh-grade Strategic Reading classes invited other classes to a "Book Tasting" at their restaurant, The Tasty Nugget. Classes made a reservation, and students "served up" book reviews on the choice books they have been reading this term. It was a wonderful way for students to share and learn about new books!

A special guest for the Annual Holiday Sing-Along

For decades, the Manomet School Community has had a tradition of gathering together for the last hour before December vacation to celebrate with the Annual Holiday Sing-Along. This year was no exception, with literally hundreds of family members joining our students and staff to hear some beautiful music. This year was made even more special due to the presence of a special guest. MES alum, Joseph Bishop, came by to share his musical gifts by both playing the keyboard and singing to our students.

Guiding Word of 2019

First grade students in Room 18 celebrated the new year with a focus on a guide word for 2019 reminding us to be the best version of ourselves always with help from The Word Collector by Peter Reynolds. Our student teacher, Mrs. Spooner was inspired to continue the lesson by sharing the book How Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills.

Six Word Objective Summary

What do the words we write really have to say? 7th grade Gemini strategic reading students examined the power of word choice as they wrote six word objective summaries for each independent reading book they read over the last ten weeks. They had the opportunity to present their favorite by creating a Canva poster and using PVLEGS. Here you students examining their peers work in a silent museum setting. Thank you PECC!

The New Graduates of the Massachusetts 4H Babysitter's Course recently visited the Pre-School. The students really enjoyed their visit and where able to demonstrate some of the skills they have recently learned.

Next stop -- ancient Egypt!

Grade 6 students continue their studies of early civilizations. Next stop -- ancient Egypt. Today's lessons focused on the geographic features of the Nile Valley and attractive area to establish communities.

I Spy!

To reinforce oral fluency, students in Spanish classes play a multilingual version of the game "I Spy." Mrs. Sullivan describes the location, color, size, shape, and functions of items around the classroom in Spanish. Students race to identify the object and write its Spanish name on a whiteboard.

Exploring Polarity in Science

Using bar magnets and iron shavings, students in grade 7 science classes explored polarity and the impact of magnetic fields on the planet.

Traveling to Jupiter and the Galapagos

Seniors in Dystopian Literature travel to Jupiter, the Galapagos, and witness a rescue mission through the Plymouth School's Virtual Reality sets. This experience was to show students just how far technology has come, comparing it to their current text Fahrenheit 451. Seniors also got some possible ideas for how they can incorporate this type of crazy technology and its potential use into the Dystopian societies they will be creating on their own in short stories!
