ONE-DAY WINERY TOUR
MARCH 20
Come on a winery tour - but enjoy getting back home on the same day!
Come up with us on the Skyline Skyrides gondola for a tasting & platters at Volcanic Wines. Then come with us to Takapoto Estate, Karapiro, for a tour of this great venue, followed by a light late lunch & tasting. We are giving clients another chance to try different vintages of the wines they love (as well as those they haven't tasted before) in convivial company.
Much of the cost of our winery tours is involved with hours of travel & several nights of accommodation.
This one-day tour has all the advantages of a longer regional winery tour, but will better suit your budget!.
TAKAPOTO ESTATE
After travelling on to Karapiro (arrival approximately ??.30), we will have a tour of the venue, folllowed by a wine tasting of 5 Takapoto Estate wines, including Rose, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Red Blend. This will be followed by a tea/coffee, sandwich, savoury & sweet.
Takapoto Estate is a 600= acre property located on three kilometres of waterfront on Lake Karapiro in the Waikato. On this trip, you have a varied day looking at the Estate's wonderful gardens, hearing about their ecological efforts & how these complement the neighbouring Maungatautari Reserve.
The estate is a living sanctuary and family legacy. The land has been lovingly restored with native trees and plants that now provide a thriving eco-sanctuary to the neighbouring Maungatautari Mountain - an initiative that saw the addition of over 800,000 native plantings. In addition, Takapoto Estate has built world-class equestrian facilities, function areas, boutique cottage accommodation, a horse breeding program, vineyards and wines, a market garden, and raised Angus bulls.
"With Sanctuary Mountain in the backdrop, Takapoto Estate offers the birds of Maungatautari a year-round pantry, including native flowers and flax. The forest has also started offering seeds and propagation materials to help grow other forests, wetlands, riparian restorations, subdivision projects, and garden designs.
Over the years, the gullies and sidelings have been retired to protect the waterways on what was previously farmland and rolling countryside. Likewise, an effective pest control program has been a critical investment in maintaining and protecting the Takapoto Estate forest, its native inhabitants, and its neighbors.
The property’s ‘river run’ has been planted extensively. However, a special spot is reserved for the vines that produce some of the Takapoto Estate’s Crossing Point wines. The air movement from the Waikato river keeps the grapes healthy and produces top wines with the help of Alex Coldicutt, Takapoto Estate’s Winemaker.
The Estate is also home to a market-style garden that produces honey, olive oil, fruit, and vegetables. This produce goes into healthy food boxes for ten families every week and is available for guests of the Lakehouse. "www.takapoto.co.nz
