St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 2 | 19 OCTOBER 2023
“Lord, strengthen me, and surround me with your favor and kindness.
Thank you that during times of difficulty and distress, you will uplift me and sustain me.
Thank you for being my light and salvation. Amen”
Dear Parents and Carers,
Earlier in the year I advised that the school report format will change slightly and bring us into alignment with CEWA and government requirements. The report format will stay the same, however, comments for Religion will no longer be provided and comments for Math and English will be replaced by identified Achievement Standards from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. All WA schools are expected to report against these standards. Staff have identified the more common ones they are reporting against and these are provided in the report. There is a link in the report that families can access if they wish to access all the Achievement Standards for the Math or English Learning Area for their child’s year level. Students will also still receive a grade and there will still be a general comment on how the student has performed throughout the semester or year. If families have any questions, they should contact their classroom teacher.
I am advising the school community, that next year in Term 1, I will be taking long service leave and will return to work at the start of Term 2. In my absence Mr Yock will be the acting principal and I am sure he will do a great job at looking after the school.
The Year 5 students will be preparing speeches over the next few weeks in preparation for the student elections in November. I wish all the 2024 potential leaders well with their preparation and speeches.
The School Advisory Council (SAC) ACM will be held on Monday, 6 November following the P&F AGM. There will be no elections as the existing members will continue in their role as per the new CEWA SAC Constitution. Phil Horner, our SAC Chair, will also launch our new Three-year Strategic Plan at the AGM.
The P&F AGM will be held on Monday, 6 November at 6:00pm in the school undercover area. There will be no elections for 2024 as the existing members will continue in their roles under the new CEWA P&F Constitution.
I wish our interschool athletics team all the best at the interschool next week. I know they will be great ambassadors for our school.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Friday, 8 December. Students will start school in 2024 on Wednesday, 31 January.
God Bless.

Principal

P&F News
Hi everyone,
This week, we held our final P&F meeting for the year. I am humbled by the incredible parent representatives we have had this year and truly appreciate all the hard work they have put in.
We are on the home stretch with the final P&F events for the year occurring over the next couple of weeks.
1. School disco - is this Friday! The RSVP's have now closed to what will be a fantastic event. Thank you SO much to the Year 5 and Pre-Primary parents for putting this together.
2. Grandparents Day - please also submit your RSVP's for this event so we can ensure we have organised the appropriate catering for the correct number of people.
We have received a few more P&F pitches from the children this term. We are blown away by the passion and thought that have gone into these submissions. We are proud to be supporting an initiative led by two Year 6 students, Poppy and Florence. They will be running an arts and craft club for the children over the upcoming weeks. Well done girls, we can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Have a wonderful week everyone.
