a few reminders from the school office. . . . .
Thank You! We really appreciate all of your support and partnership you have with our school. Your smiles and kind words make our day as we work together to help your child have a happy day at school.
Is your child going to miss school? Please make sure to call in your student if they will not be in school using the attendance line (331)228-3300 and please remember to state the reason for the absence. We need to document and account for every student every day and when you proactively report their absence it can really help our office team.
We love celebrating your child's birthday, we just can't pass out treats. Per District 303 practice, there is no food/treats allowed to be brought in during the school day to celebrate birthday parties or for school rooms parties. I know we sharing this info at the beginning of the school year, but just wanted to share a reminder. Sorry, no candy, cupcakes, brownies, apple pie, beef jerky, omelets, or fish tacos allowed. :)
Halloween Costume Parade and Classroom Parties
PARADE
On Tuesday, Oct. 31st, (2:00-2:20 PM) Anderson will have a Costume Parade to celebrate all things fall and fun! If your child wants to wear a costume in our parade, they are welcome to bring a simple costume to school. Their teacher will give them time before the parade begins to change into the costume. Please keep all costumes simple enough that your child can put them on themselves. (Please no violent-themed costumes. No Blood/Guts... Remember we have younger students)
Parents/guardians, Grandparents are welcome to come to view the parade. The parade route will make its way outside to the back of the school. We will have cones set up marking the route. Hope to see you there! Be ready for an explosion of cuteness. :)
CLASSROOM PARTY
Each classroom will celebrate all the hard work they have done since the start of school by having a party on Tuesday Oct. 31st. (Approx.: 2:20-2:50 PM some grade levels have different times) Each grade level and teacher may need parents helpers to plan, host, or simply help in the classroom for the party. See info from your child's teacher regarding their plans for the class party. We highly recommend that all students take their "normal" transportation home. This keeps our dismissal process smooth and safe for all kids.
NEED TO KNOW INFO:
Also, just a reminder, that all volunteers also need to bring a current driver's license or state ID in order to comply with the D303 Security Check before they enter the building.
Only the Volunteers that are signed up with your child's teacher may attend the party. It is not an "Open House" event.
If you prefer your child not patriciate in the costume parade or classroom party, please simply notify their teacher. We will have an fun alternative learning activity for them to do in the Library.
Interested in being a Volunteer in some capacity at Anderson? (Click Below)
Thank you for showing interest in potentially volunteering to support our teachers. This survey data will be collected and then willing volunteers may be matched with teachers' needs as they arise throughout the year. If your answers indicate you're interested in coming into the school to volunteer, we will reach out to you with the security forms needed prior to you coming.
Upcoming Erin's Law Presentations
Dear Anderson School Families,
This letter is to inform you about Erin’s Law (Illinois Public Act 097-1147), an Illinois law passed in February 2011 that requires public schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention education for all children in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades. Named after sexual abuse survivor Erin Merryn, Erin’s Law will be implemented again this year in all District 303 Schools. Please note that Erin’s Law is not connected to The Keeping Youth Safe & Healthy Act (Senate Bill 818).
Between now and the end of the school year, several lessons will be facilitated by Ms. Yatchak and Ms. Sendef, the school social workers, and Mrs. Thanasenaris, the school psychologist, along with the classroom teacher utilizing the Second Step Child Protection Unit. This age-appropriate instruction will help students recognize unsafe situations, keep themselves safe, and learn how to respond to unsafe situations. Common themes across all grade levels include:
Identifying safe touch versus unsafe or unwanted touch
The Safety Rule About Touching (The Touching Rule): Private areas are not for others to touch, except to keep a child clean and healthy
Steps to Stay Safe
Understanding the difference between good and bad secret

District 303 is pleased to present its lineup of Parent Education sessions for the 2023-2024 school year.
The Parent Education series (formerly Parent University) includes informational meetings and workshops intended to empower parents and guardians to support their children’s academic, social and emotional needs. Become informed on specialized topics, engage in two-way dialogue with speakers and fellow parents, and become a support resource for others.
Sessions for this school year will focus on bullying prevention, addressing anxiety, and include film screenings and discussions about the impact of screen time and cultural awareness. The schedule also includes college preparation workshops hosted by our high schools. Sessions were selected based in part on feedback from District 303 parents.
Explore the full lineup of sessions here. Signup forms for each session will be made available closer to the session dates. New this year, you can also register for Parent Education notifications and receive alerts as new information and session recaps become available.
