News from Principal Lamothe
Hello PRS Wizards!
As colder weather is approaching you may have all noticed at this time that the speed bumps on Shirmer Rd. have been taken off the road to be able to plow. With that being said, there has been an increase in cars and busses traveling down Shirmer Rd. at a higher speed. There is a "crosswalk" there but it is not town supported and is used as a cut through for the neighborhood children. Please be cognizant while driving down Shirmer Rd. as students do cross the road using the pride "crosswalk". Thank you for keeping this in mind and helping keep all of our kids safe here at PRS.
Safety Procedures and information:
January 20th - In order to maintain a safe environment for our students, it is important that we practice our emergency response plans by practicing different types of safety drills(fire, stay in place, bus) throughout the school year. We emphasize to the students these are just drills and we practice our procedures to help keep everyone in our school safe.
Today, in collaboration with the Hingham Transportation Department , PRS students took part in a bus evacuation drill. In case of an emergency on the bus, PRS students have practiced and are ready to face the emergency with safety knowledge they learned led by their own bus driver.
January 27th
Officer McGillicuddy will be presenting to our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders on Internet safety. She will discuss many issues that will help students realize the importance of proper usage of the internet and signs to look out for when things don't seem right while surfing the web.
Valentine's Day
As Valentine's Day is shortly approaching and you are wanting to do something for your child's class, please remember under the handbook it says, "In accordance with School activities and celebrations that include food, will be limited to specific curriculum based activities and special seasonal celebrations." The faculty council (this consists of a staff member from every grade including special education and specialists) decided this past week at our monthly meeting that Valentine's Day celebrations will not be considered a seasonal celebration under the policy. This helps make sure all students can participate and we don't have to worry about allergies or our diabetic students in our school community being left out.
Mrs. Dunphy's Breakfast Book Club
Open to all 4th & 5th grade students, starts March 10th, 7:30am in the PRS Cafeteria. The book that will be discussed is The Year of the Dog by Grace Lin. Copies of the book are available in the library.
