What's Been Happening in the Library?
These last couple of weeks, we've been busy working with teachers and students on a variety of interesting projects. We've worked with...
- Ms. Miller's and Mr. McElroy's 8th grade Civics classes on a lesson on identifying bias in the news. Click here to access MediaBiasFactCheck.com, a handy website devoted to identifying potential bias in popular news sources.
- Mr. McElroy's 8th grade Civics classes on a lesson on evaluating sources of information and identifying fake news. Click here to access the checklist we gave students.
- On Halloween, we shared some Spooky Book Talks with Ms. Bergstrom's 8th grade English students.
- Ms. Nightingale's 8th grade English students on research projects related to social injustice in the U.S. (AA) and agents on change (Honors).
- 7th and 8th grade English students on a variety of research skills lessons: evaluating and selecting sources of information, conducting an effective key word search, plagiarism, and citation.

Books I Read Recently
An action-packed historical fantasy in an interesting setting--feudal Japan! I would describe this as Throne of Glass meets “Mulan.” Click here to find out more about the book on Amazon.
This unique twist on a classic tale is action-packed and full of dark humor. Fans of Wicked, The Lunar Chronicles, and twisted fairy tales will eat this up. Click here to find out more about the book on Amazon.
This action-packed sequel is a must-read for fans of the first book in the series. There are four core books and a number of companion novels in the Dorothy Must Die Series. Click here to find out more about the book on Amazon.
Lisa Hoyle
This is Lisa Hoyle's second year as a librarian at Longfellow Middle School. Lisa has an MLS from the University of Maryland. In her free time she loves reading, traveling, listening to music, and yoga. Some of her favorite books include Harry Potter, The Giver, and The Lunar Chronicles.
