M Fairview Falcon Family Newsletter
March 2023
From the Principal
Dear families,
Once again, I want to thank you for your involvement and engagement during parent teacher conference season. Our building has been a busy place this week, but for all the best reasons! Teachers are elated to be able to share how your student is learning and growing as we march toward the end of the school year. In addition, our Book Fair is in full-swing and will be open on Thursday evening this week. Be sure to stop by, if you haven't already!
March is jam-packed with several family events. I want to encourage you to circle March 16th on your calendars, because that is the date of our Art Show and Multicultural Night. More details are below, and we hope that you'll join us for a fantastic event.
See you soon!

Placement for 2023-2024
We will begin making decisions about student/teacher placements for next school year later this month. Our goal is for each student to be placed in a classroom where their academic and emotional needs are met. Current classroom teachers provide pertinent information regarding each student in their classrooms. Counselors and learning specialists provide additional feedback, as well. Using all of the data that is gathered, teachers and administrators make the decisions regarding class assignment for each child. Classroom placement is very important and we want to consider all relevant information so that each Fairview child will be successful as they advance to their next grade level.
We welcome parent feedback before this process begins in the form of a letter. If you feel compelled to weigh-in, please send an email to Dr. Simmons by Friday, March 31st. Please limit your letter to the traits/qualities/characteristics of a potential teacher for your child. Additionally, if you have insight regarding your childâs strengths, weaknesses, and
learning style that could help us with our placement decision, feel free to include that information in your letter, as well. All feedback that you provide us will be considered carefully by our team.
Finally, please refrain from using a given teacher's name in your letter. Requests for a specific teacher, by name, will not be considered.
Thank you!

Specialist Updates
Hello Fairview Families đ
Classes have finished up basketball skills and weâve moved on to soccer skills. Be sure to ask them about our basketball activities--Hot Spot, Cone Ball, One and Done, and Make it Take It. We also played game called Super Bowl around the time of the big game!
Please continue to email or send in photos of your kiddos in action! Iâve received a few and put them up on the bulletin board. Finally, PLEASE help your kiddos remember their tennis shoes. There have been some situations where kids must sit out of some activities because of unsafe footwear. Might as well wear them every day, I do!!
As always, thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
In art students have finished up our Design Unit and are moving into our Sculpture Unit, which is an all-around favorite because students will be creating a work from clay! This is something many students have been waiting for since the first day of art. Students have also been busy preparing their 2 favorite works they have created to be displayed at our Fairview Multicultural Night and Art Show Thursday March 16th from 5:30-7pm, I hope to see you there! Please reach out with any questions- lrobb@cpsk12.org

From the Media Center
Media Center News! Thank you for your support of the Book Fair! It is amazing how much students â and adults â look forward to this every year! The Book Fair will be open Thursday, March 2, 3:30-6:30 pm and the online fair will be open through Friday, March 3 at efairs.literati.com, search Fairview.
In the library, we have been talking about building reading stamina â spending a longer and longer amount of time reading in one sitting. Spending time in a book helps you get into the plot and care about the characters â and want to keep reading! We continue to get in new books that the students are excited about, as well as learning about favorites that have shown the test of time. Thanks for helping your students find and return missing books so everyone has the chance to read them!

Technology Specials
Technology Specials
In technology fourth and fifth graders worked in groups to pick a country and make a google slide presentation. Their job was to research that country and present why it would be a good tourist destination and the great things that country would have to offer. Second and third graders used World Book Kids to research and work on their note taking skills. First graders learned how to navigate World Book Kids and take in lots of exciting information. Kindergarten had a lesson on questions vs statements and the differences, they worked in Electronic Library using Brain Pop Jr., and they also learned what websites are just right for their age. You might ask them about the San Diego Zoo web cams showing the animals. Grades kindergarten thru third also discussed infographics and where we see graphics to get information.

From the Music Room
February has been full of singing, dancing, and playing instruments in music. Most classes have spent time playing boomwhackers as well as using our large tubano drums. We also did some melody improvisation on the xylophones using the song âRed Kingdomâ to celebrate the Chiefsâ big Superbowl win! March is Music in Our Schools month, so we are planning some fun ways to celebrate! Our new student teacher Ms. Conley will be joining our Fairview family very soon. She is eager to begin working with our students!
