Scott E. Miller, Superintendent
Issue 2 - January 13, 2020
Dear SCH Family,
This past week a close friend challenged me that I was giving answers that were too politically correct and lacked true substance. As I reflected on her comment, I knew in my heart she was right and I apologized. If you're anything like me, the defenses come up all too quickly when criticized. I want to encourage each of you, no matter your position, to look at criticism and feedback as an opportunity to reflect and grow. Even if it only turns out to be a perception, it is still important to understand how others view you and how that impacts your goals, how you communicate, and ultimately how we treat one another.
Have a great week!

Food & Nutrition
After the first 12 weeks of the Secondary Breakfast Contest – here’s the standings up through December 31st! Keeping in mind that the national averages (according to a 2018 School Nutrition Association School Nutrition Operations Report) for middle school breakfast participation the average daily participation rate is 22% and high school is 18% - you all at our secondary schools are doing AMAZING!!! The contest wraps up on February 28th – so there is tons of time to change your standing.
Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts
This event highlights our performing artists as they share their gifts with our Hammond Community. It is free of charge and we hope you will attend to show support!

Secondary Curriculum
Morton High School rolls out Operation Success
Operation Success is designed to increase the number of credits achieved and reduce failure. Every student will be assigned a homeroom. Students will go to homeroom 5 times during the semester. Students will set goals, check progress, and reflect. Teachers will be there to confer, support, encourage, build relationships, and assist their students. This will culminate in a school wide celebration of our success. Go Govs!
Special Education
Technology
While having complex passwords is important, one of the best ways to secure yourself without changing all of your passwords is to use something called “multi-factor authentication” or “two-factor authentication.” Two-factor authentication is the most common, and the simplest form involves checking a box on a website that asks them to send a code to your phone or email when you try to log in. This way if your passwords are compromised, the attacker will be unable to log in without direct access to your phone or email. Many sites offer this, such as banks, email providers, and even Google itself. This is the simplest and most effective step you can take to secure yourself!
