Principal's Message
Band Concert
This morning we were treated to the wonderful sounds of our Murwood Band. Our 4th and 5th grade students have been working all year to perfect their musical talents. It was so lovely to hear the growth they have made. Thank you to Mrs. Batdorf and Mr. Taylor for all that you do for our students.
Kindness Week
Kindness week is in full swing! Our students have been discussing ways to be kind at school and at home. Students watched The Great Kindness Kick-Off video and discussed ways to be kind to everyone. Each day there are classes who are recognized for being kind. Our leadership students have also placed kindness pins around the school to share with students. Keep up the great work Mustangs!
Science Fair
The 2024 Murwood Science Fair will be Thursday, March 7th and the students are excited! This is a fun opportunity for students to investigate their own questions about the natural world. Any student who wants to participate in the Science Fair must return their entry form by Wednesday, January 31st. Mrs. Smith will review the project proposal and return it with a project guide and display board. Please reach out to Mrs. Smith (jsmith@walnutcreeksd.org) with any questions.
DELAC Meeting Recording
For those who were not able to make the District English Language Advisory Committee last Thursday, please find the recording and slides available on the district website listed as DELAC Meeting Resources. Discussion topics included information about the upcoming Summative ELPAC for our EL students, Redesignation and ELOP program.
PTA is a GREAT way to support our school!
The Murwood PTA plays a vital role in enhancing the overall educational experience for our children, and we are currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join the PTA Board for the 24-25 school year. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to actively contribute to shaping the school environment, building a stronger community, and making a lasting impact on your child's education.
Click here to learn about the positions and please reach out with any questions and/or to volunteer.
Stay dry out there!

Future Squire Families…
As the calendar now says 2024, it will only be a short few months until you and your child will potentially join the Walnut Creek Intermediate School community. Later in the spring you will be receiving information regarding your child’s transition to WCI. In the meantime, the WCI PTA wanted to invite you to an event that may interest you. Please consider attending, “How to Understand A Middle Schooler” featuring our keynote speaker, Keith Hawkins. Attendance at this event is optional.
Who is Keith Hawkins?
Keith, is a returning, dynamic public speaker who captivated WCI students last January by discussing his philosophy: “Give What You Need.” His delivery and engagement with students is truly inspiring with a relatable demeanor, magnetic presence, and a million-dollar smile!
This year we are thrilled to welcome Keith Hawkins back to WCI! The WCI PTA is sponsoring this event and wanted to include our new 2024 incoming families.
The “How to Understand Your Middle Schooler” keynote speech highlights will include:
How to help students feel a sense of belonging and voice at school
Ways to build a strong, social-emotional tool box for a middle schooler so that academics and other aspects of a teen/preteen’s life can benefit
The importance of supporting and listening to your preteen/teen, celebrating their victories, recognizing their efforts and improvements, & focusing on growth rather than accomplishments
Personal anecdotes, practical tips, and valuable insight to help make the middle school experience a positive one
If you think you (and your grade 5-8 student is invited as well) would enjoy sharing some time laughing, pondering, participating, and reflecting on the challenges and intricacies of middle school, mark your calendars for Keith Hawkins’ “How to Understand a Middle Schooler” speech! It’s one you won’t want to miss! Please RSVP by January 25th to reserve your spot!
Sincerely,
Chrissy Morss

It’s almost time to Turn Up The Heat for our schools!
WCEF's annual Turn Up the Heat fundraiser is February 5-9. Our ask is $825 per student, but give what you can to help us get to 100% family participation and $1.5 million! Every gift counts!
Why should you donate?
Your donations stay at your school and fund programs and classes that otherwise do not exist - and the state does not fund.
Together we all support grades TK-12 - ensuring a comprehensive education from the first day to graduation day.
Donating is easy: donate online or via Venmo, or drop cash or a check in the red envelope with the form sent home on February 5.
Every gift matters.

Business Spotlight: Rebecca Burns
WCEF is proud to partner with Rebecca Burns as a Silver Partner for the 2023-24 school year.
About being a WCEF partner, Rebecca says, "Being a Realtor in Walnut Creek is about being a part of our great community. There is so much excitement in helping my clients find, negotiate, and close on a home. However, my favorite part happens later. Getting emails about home additions, texts and pictures of new babies, and waves and wags around town...these are the things that fuel my passion for real estate. Happy homeowners, now a part of our community, make my job truly a privilege.
Beyond real estate, supporting causes like the Walnut Creek Education Foundation is a priority. Investing in our youth is investing in our collective future.
I’m grateful for the chance to connect in 2024; let's make this year one of connection and positive impact together!”
