Dear Bruin Families and Students:
It has certainly been a trying and difficult week for many in our community, our students, our families, and our staff. While we offered support at school for students and staff, we also joined our BHS families in comforting and supporting our ten Israeli exchange students from Mor High School in Modi’in, Israel. We saw them off on Thursday as they made their way back to Modi’in. My heart breaks for all of them as I know it will continue to be an emotional rollercoaster once they make it home, hug their family members, discuss the war, and wonder what will happen next. This is my 28th year in Brighton, and I am always impressed by our incredible families and students when their support is needed. Thank you for everything you did for our kids and for our visiting exchange students.
On Wednesday night at 12:30 AM, we received eighteen Spanish exchange students from Colegio Meres High School in Oviedo, Spain. Again, we have incredible families opening their homes to these eighteen Spanish students who are far away from their home, their families, and many of them in the United States for the first time. They will be with us until October 20th.
To end our week, Homecoming 2023 is upon us. Saturday will bring our annual Homecoming Parade at 12:45 PM and football game at 2:00 PM. This is a wonderful time for kids to take pride in their school, be teenagers, enjoy a moment of time away from the stressful events of the world, and bring positive school spirit to our community. If your students are coming to the Homecoming game at 2:00 PM, PLEASE talk with them about keeping their cheering positive, supportive, and respectful. While we certainly want kids to be LOUD and PROUD, we do not want them to use negative chants, call out players from the other team, offend our visiting team/school/families, or yell at our referees. We want it to be a POSITIVE event. Please note that if there is ANY inappropriate behavior, students will be removed from the game and from school grounds. School disciplinary action may also be taken. Again, please talk to your students! Thank you.
Be well and be safe.

Current COVID Guidelines
The CDC recommends that people who have symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, should stay home. Testing is recommended for people with symptoms of COVID-19 as soon as possible after symptoms begin.
- If people test positive for COVID-19, they should stay home for at least 5 days and isolate.
- Isolation may end after Day 5 IF people are fever-free for 24-hours without fever-reducing medication AND their symptoms are improving.
- Day 0 being day of symptom onset or positive test.
- If symptoms are NOT improving, the CDC recommends that the person continue to isolate until symptoms improve and they are fever-free for 24-hours without fever-reducing medication.
- After the person has ended isolation and when symptoms have improved, the CDC recommends that people wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask through Day 10, OR until two rapid tests, taken 48-hours apart, are both negative.
