Reach for the Stars!
We have had our first safety drills, a bus evacuation and fire drill, and students and staff did a wonderful job! Headed into October we will be making plans to conduct a Code Yellow and Code Red drill in partnership with our Homewood Police Department.
Family STAR reports were sent home on Friday. Please review the report and this helpful information about the report. Feel free to reach out to your child's teacher with any questions. Our universal screening period has ended and our intervention team will be beginning small group supports and extension learning in the coming weeks.
Be the reason...
Coming soon! Encourage your child to collect those Bones!

News You Can Use
Thank you PTA for your help with picture day and to all the family/caregivers able to join Dr. Schnoor for our first Snack and Chat!
Transportation Changes: Please inform both classroom and office of any changes. Changes must be communicated by 2:30pm on full days and 11:15am on early release days. We can not accept changes that are communicated only by students.
Lunch Delivery: If your child is not getting a school/hot lunch, please send them to school with a lunch. We understand that occasionally a lunch may be forgotten at home and we can accept delivery. The number of lunches being delivered can be overwhelming to our front office staff. If delivery is needed, the lunch must be in the office 20min before their scheduled lunchtime. No paid delivery service drop-offs allowed.
Use of Electronics: We have a clear policy regarding cellphones and electronic devices. If you choose to send your child to school with a watch with communication tools, please be clear about the rules of our school and your expectations. Watches should never be used as communication device during the instructional day. Students should report any concern or need directly to a staff member when they are in our care. If students are not following this policy we will follow our steps of warning, communicating with families, and confiscation for repeated offense.
Clubs at Churchill
Our club sign-up went out this weekend and we are excited for our first session! Club sponsors will reach out this upcoming week once rosters have been finalized. They will provide more specific information about the group and meeting dates/times. Clubs will begin the week of October 2nd. Please remember that all students must be picked up at 4:15pm. Another sign-up will go out in January for Session 2.
Tech Time for 3rd Grade
Families - Our 3rd grade students will begin to take their laptops to and from school starting in October. Be on the lookout for more information from your child's teacher. Review the laptop expectations video so you can discuss this with your child before laptops come home. Please find a dedicated space at home for the device and ensure it is being charged daily.
Get Involved!
An Invitation: Principal's Advisory Committee
We are looking for interested Churchill caregivers to submit this form to be a part of the Principal's Advisory Committee. The committee will meet three times a school year (once per Trimester) to learn about and discuss school improvement efforts as well as co-construct with the principal special projects. Please complete the form if you are interested and Principal Schnoor will reach out with further details regarding its first meeting. If you have participated previously, no need to complete the form as an invite to our meetings will be automatically sent. Hope to add some new names and faces to our team!
Bulldog Day on September 27th
Make sure you ask your child about Bulldog Day! They took a survey last week and will participate in a preferred extension activity the morning of 9/27. There are a lot of fun and interesting activities that students are sure to enjoy. We will have 5 more days throughout the school year that this will take place (October 25th, December 20th, January 31st, February 28th, and April 24th) and we would welcome any parent or community members that would like to teach a passion/interest with a small group of students on this day. Please get in touch with Dr. Schnoor if interested.

If you would like to find out more about this incredible tool, please register to gain access to a family webinar recording.
Social Emotional Learning
We have many great resources to teach and practice social emotional learning skills at Churchill. Please see some introductory information about Second Step, Ripple Effects, and our Churchill social emotional assessment rubric. Your child will be assessed and provided a grade at the end of each trimester for their performance in the four domains outlined in the rubric.
