Mississippi Bend AEA Media Montage
November 2021
"Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
—Voltaire
Reflect silently for a minute. Why did you become a teacher or administrator in the first place? What makes you smile and reminds you why you entered the education field? What drives you personally? Although cliche, "getting back to your roots" may help you reset, especially with busy or challenging times.
November 13th is World Kindness Day. I encourage you to tell students, families, coworkers, friends, and even strangers how you appreciate them. No matter how small, you never know the impact it may have. I am in awe at how you have managed all the curveballs thrown at you during this pandemic. The impact you have on students, families, and the community is enormous! I continue to grow professionally because of you and am grateful to connect with wonderful people.

Authentic Learning Project Opportunity
Overview
Students from around the world will be examining weekly themes focused on water pollution to explore how they can play a role in making the world a better place for sea turtles who are impacted by the tidal wave of plastic in our oceans. Additionally, students will be working with partners from around the world to make real change that will better serve the animals in need while discovering how all of our actions impact other people and animals.

Phishing Emails
Phishing is a standard method of cybercrime. Here are some clues to help you, students, coworkers, and other adults spot scams.
- The message comes from a public email domain, e.g., @gmail.com. Look at the email address, not just the sender.
- The domain name has spelling errors. Domain names are purchased from a registrar and must be unique. People sometimes overlook the slight misspelling and respond because it appears it is from a known source.
- The email contains errors. Look for grammatical mistakes, not spelling errors, as hackers use a spellchecker or a translation machine to give them the right words. Read or listen carefully.
- The text message, phone call, or social media post includes suspicious attachments or links. The ultimate goal is to collect sensitive information.
- The message creates a sense of urgency and uses terminology such as act now or else it will be too late.
Help stop cyber incidents by reporting phishing to IT departments and email providers as soon as you see it.
