QUARTERFINAL QUOTIENT: SMHS ROBOTICS TEAM TRIUMPHS AT TOURNAMENT!
The SMHS Robotics Club just wrapped up a very successful VEX Robotics fall season. Many thanks to the Cape Cod Five Bank and the MIT Club of Cape Cod for their financial support. We could not do it without you! A special thanks to physics teacher and Robotics Club Advisor, Dr. Laurence Anderson.
SMHS MATH MAESTROS: A FORMULA FOR SUCCESS!
Under the tutelage of math teacher, and MATHCOUNTS Advisor, Ms. Kate Carl, nine incredibly talented student mathematicians have been meeting weekly before school, learning advanced mathematics skills and mastering problem-solving techniques to compete inter-scholastically.
Two MathCounts alumni volunteer to help with coaching: Emma Jakubicka and Hannah Sareault.
Our team competed at the regional competition on Tuesday, February 6. Damian Panev, Brian Barrett, Andy Lemoi and Max Brooks-Lantry scored among the top 20% and the team of Damian, Brian, Max, and Prisha Bajracharya scored second overall on the team round.
They qualify to head to states at UMass Lowell on March 2.

National Honor Society Scholarship Semi-Finalist
Congratulations to senior BRIGID KELLY, who is a semi-finalist for the National Honor Society Scholarship! National Honor Society scholarship recipients are selected based on their demonstration of the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, character, and leadership. This marks the second year our NHS Glass Chapter has had a semi-finalist, and the third time in four years.
Semifinalists receive $3,200 toward their future academic pursuits.

The Blue Knight Award is a prestigious award that recognizes grade 7 and 8 students who are nominated by their teachers for their exceptional embodiment of Blue Knight core competencies: Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Perseverance, Adaptability and Learning.

Bon Appetit! A French Culinary Catastrophe!
French language classes recently embarked on a peculiar quest: to concoct the most repulsive sandwich imaginable! Armed with an arsenal of French culinary vocabulary and a healthy dose of imagination, students pushed the boundaries on gastronomic decency. The project: Sandwich Dégoûtant earned the following 3 students the uncontested praise of peers and staff:

JEFF HAYES MEMORIAL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT: FEB 19-20
February 19-20, 2024 marks the 12th Annual Jeff Hayes Memorial Hockey Tournament. Sandwich High School student Jeff Hayes died of Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, in January 2007, his senior year. The tournament helps raise money for cancer research as well as three Jeff Hayes Memorial Award Scholarships which are awarded to Sandwich seniors each spring. Your support is greatly appreciated.

SMHS SPRING 2024 TESTING DATES
TRUST in SPECIAL EDUCATION
Principal Trish Hill of the Oak Ridge School is conducting a research project through Northeastern University on building trusting relationships in the area of Special Education. She is looking for participants for interviews and focus groups. If you are the parent of a child on an IEP, please consider lending your voice to this work. Participation is completely voluntary. Interviews will take approximately 45-60 minutes and focus groups will be from 60-90 minutes in length.
