Get Ready for Fun Reading Activities!

February 28 – Hats off to Reading! – wear a crazy or favorite hat

March 1 – Reading Jogs the Mind! – wear work out clothing

March 2 – Read Across America Day – dress as your favorite character from your favorite book

March 3 – Reading Never Goes Out of Style! – choose a decade and dress your best OR wear your UE Stars Gear

March 4 – Cozy Up to a Good Book! – wear your pajamas & slippers

STRIDE for ALL is an elementary after school program for ALL children in grades 3-5 which strives for striking a balance between physical and mental health. Children build teamwork and communication skills through fun team challenges; activities such as running, and basic movements get kids moving while simultaneously helping to build stamina and confidence. This 10-week program integrates important lessons on topics such as social anxiety, inclusion, racial equity, and respecting others that children are facing today within their schools and community.

With time closing in on the start of the program on March 7, we currently have UE registered as a program site, but no volunteers. The program requires 2 volunteers per team of 8-15. We hope that are able to find at least 2 volunteers in the UE community that would be interested in serving to volunteer for this program.

Below is some quick info about volunteering:

• Team Leaders, like coaches, need no experience; just a willingness to empower, inspire and guide.
• Fill out volunteer application and submit necessary background clearances.
• Commit to the duration of the program (starting March and going to May 22), leading 2 sessions per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for 90 minutes (3:45-5:15pm)
• Participate in a virtual Team Leader training that will familiarize them with the program requirements, goals and mission.
• Each team requires a minimum of 2 Team Leaders for teams of 8-15
• Lead lessons from the STRIDE for ALL curriculum, which include fitness activities and games demonstrating the lesson topic.
• Plan to attend with their team the Obstacle Course Challenge event on May 22nd at the Upper Main Line YMCA.

When: Sunday, March 27th

Time: 4-6pm

Where: Ice Line, West Chester PA

Who: 4th Grade Classes from all FOUR elementary schools!

Let’s Beat the Weight of 1,009 pounds!

If UE beats the weight, all students will win popsicles at recess!
