Principal's Message
Hello Springwater Students and Families,
Springwater stands united with our families impacted by the war in Israel and Gaza, including those who have lost loved ones. The loss of innocent life has been difficult to watch these past two weeks. As the world experiences the violent ripple effects of the war, I am thankful for the diverse Springwater community that listens and respects one another. I appreciate the courage it takes for students to stand up for what they believe in while also knowing when it is time to set aside our differences so we can respect and support one another. Springwater students demonstrate this maturity every single day.
Progress grades posted in ParentVue and StudentVue this week. Please reach out to us if you need help accessing your student's grades. Now is a great time to sit down and talk with your student about their classes. We have Academic Support available Monday - Thursday from 2:30pm - 3:30pm and there is transportation home. If your student is struggling or just needs a structured place to get work done after school, academic support is a great solution.
Next Friday is Fall Fest: our first dance of the school year! Tickets can be purchased for $4 during lunch in the Commons or in the office during passing time. We hope to see all of our students there!
Lastly: we are still accepting feedback regarding our Back To School/Family Night. If you have time, please complete the following survey.
Enjoy the weekend and please reach out if you have questions or need support.

Cell Phones/ Electronic Device Policy
Cell phones are an important part of students' lives and can be used for various purposes such as communication, education, entertainment, and safety. However, we also believe that cell phone use in the classroom can be a source of distraction, disruption, and disrespect; and cell phones can sometimes interfere with students’ learning and our school climate. Therefore, we have established the following cell phone policy to balance the benefits and drawbacks of cell phone use at school.
Students are not allowed to use cell phones during class time without teacher permission. This includes texting, calling, browsing, gaming, social media, or any other activity that involves the use of a cell phone.
There are classes that require students to turn in phones at the beginning of each class period.
If students are allowed to keep their phone during class, cell phones must be stored away in a backpack or bag.
Cell phones must be turned off or silenced and must not be visible to students and staff.
Students may use their cell phones before school, at lunchtime, and during passing time. However, students must follow the school rules and expectations regarding appropriate interactions and respectful behavior when using their cell phones.
We ask that parents call the school office at (503) 261-4600 if there is an emergency and they need to reach their child. The office staff will relay the message to the student or the teacher. Please do not call or text your child directly during class time as this may disrupt the learning environment.
If a student violates the above cell phone policy:
First offense: Students will be directed to stop using the cell phone/electronic device, turn it off/silence it and put it away/place it in the classroom cell phone storage center.
Second Offense: Students will be directed to stop using the cell phone/electronic device and the phone will be confiscated by the teacher for the remainder of the period. A disciplinary referral may be written and turned in to the administration. Students can retrieve their phone at the end of the class period. Parent/guardian will be notified.
Third and Subsequent Offenses: Students will be directed to stop using the cell phone/electronic device and it will be turned into the office. A disciplinary referral will be written and turned in to the administration. Parent/guardian will be notified. Progressive disciplinary action will occur which could include, but not limited to, loss of the cell phone throughout the school day.
Extenuating Circumstances: If a student has a medical reason for needing their phone (or another emergency situation arises), students/guardians should reach out to the office and/or talk with their teachers.
Unless requested by a staff member, students are encouraged to keep their cell phones with them at all times. Springwater Trail High School is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or electronic devices.

Springwater Attendance
If your son/daughter is going to be out for the day please call the office (503-261-4600) and let us know the reason why. Whenever the office is not notified of an absence, a call is made home via the automated calling system. If the student is going to be out more than three days, you can call the office or email your student's teachers with a request for homework. If your student is going to be out of school for extended period of time due to a vacation or some other event, please have him/her complete a Pre-arranged Absence Form. If your student needs to leave school early or arrive late due to appointments, please call the office or send a note to excuse their absence.
Electronic Flyers
Gresham-Barlow Distict has launched a new electronic flyer tool called “Peachjar.” This service allows us to “go green” and will ensure that every flier is delivered to each household. Peachjar will provide flyers directly to your computer, tablet or mobile device.
To view school-approved flyers, simply click the Peachjar button on your school’s website.
