Hawk Talk - Weekly Principal Notes
A weekly newsletter to keep Hawks Nation informed
WHO ARE WE?
With the addition of a new grade level and changes with teachers and school administrators it's important that we don't lose what makes Seaforth so special. It's not just that we have an amazing facility that can prepare every student for a great future. That certainly matters, but what matters more is the kind of character we display and the heart in which we operate with. Seaforth's identity isn't just the new school. No. It's the new school that has amazing student-teacher relationships. It's the new school that respects everyone's personal beliefs and background. It's the new school that does not believe in being mediocre. It's the new school that will always keep teaching and learning as it's primary mission. As we progress through the year, let's keep in mind WHO WE ARE! Our culture, our identity is shaped with the belief that kindness wins the day and success is attainable. We have an extraordinary future ahead of of us. Let's be sure we display the character that can support our success.
Free College Application Week
Parents, October 16-20 many North Carolina colleges and universities will waive their application fee for students. Please be sure to have your student stop by student services and talk with our school counselors about applying to college. Also, our scholarship application page will be live starting on October 16. Be sure to go to our school website and stay informed about scholarship opportunities.
Welcome New Seaforth Teachers: Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Olmos
I am ecstatic to welcome Mrs. Johnson to our math department as a part-time teacher. Mrs. Johnson is a retired teacher who served in the Chatham County Schools system. She brings with her experience, passion, and a desire to see our students flourish. Mrs. Johnson will be helping in our Math 3 classrooms and will be with us Monday-Wednesday all day. Her role will be to provide students with direct instruction on the concepts their learning and to help answer questions they have about the work they are assigned through NCVPS. We are grateful for Mrs. Johnson agreeing to come out of retirement and help our school.
I am also excited about our newest Spanish teacher, Ms. Florecita Olmos. Ms. Olmos will be joining the World Language Department at Seaforth as a Spanish 2 teacher. She is coming to us from Guilford County and has experience teaching in high school and in high education at UNC-Greensboro. Ms. Olmos is energetic and passionate about teaching and hispanic culture. She believes in building strong relationships with students, parents, and the community. Ms. Olmos will be taking over Mr. Volcan's Spanish 2 classes. Please help me in welcoming Ms. Olmos to the Seaforth family.
Hawk Staff and Student of The Week
Respect everyone
Inspire Others
Show Grit
Excel in all you do
Teachers will submit names of students who have exhibited one or more of these expectations and the student's name will go into a drawing for student of the week. The same will be done for staff members, students can submit a name of a teacher who they believe has exhibited those expectations. The staff and student selected will receive a certificate and their name will be placed into a drawing for a free Seaforth Hoodie! The drawing will take place at the end of the month.
It is important that we showcase the great character and behavior of our staff and students!
Senior Scholarship Website Coming Soon
Parents, our student services department is working on creating a scholarships website for our seniors. The Class of 2024 will have access to local, national, and college specific scholarships. Our goal is to have the website up and going before College Application Week, which is October 16-20. Parents, be sure you check the CFNC website during college application week. During that week, there are several colleges across the state that waive the application fee. It's a great time for students to apply. If you have any questions about scholarships or applying to college, please reach out to our student services lead counselor, Lindsay Phillips at lphillips@chatham.k12.nc.us.
