The Connection Week 1 Term 2
Huapai District School 5th May 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
It is so good to start the term and see the “groove” of back at school and into learning so readily embraced. Special welcome to our new families and our new children here at school. We are hopeful and fully expectatant in having a solid and uninterrupted term - fingers crossed.
I believe at the heart of a teacher is this innate desire to ‘make’ a difference in the lives of the children in their care. I believe the heart of our school leadership and direction is to position our school, our programmes and our approach to enable teachers to ‘be’ the difference. Right now we are burdened by the reality of where our children are at, against where we think they should be. I know this is a nation wide conversation happening across all schools in light of the impacts of Covid and interruptions.
Our hope and desire is that by bringing forward our reporting to parents, we can open the discussions early and work together to make and be the difference in accelerating the learning and success of our children. Please look for the details further in this newsletter to book a time to discuss this with your children's teacher. From next week you will be able to access your child’s report and progress charts using the HERO system.
Looking forward to a full on and powerful term!
John Petrie
Principal

Scholastic Book Fair Is Coming!

Staff Changes
Sadly we have accepted the resignation of Ange Trimmer.
Ange is the face of so much of our school and our Operations team. Ange is the person most people meet when enrolling and dealing with school office issues. It's Ange that knows every child and is able to offer such great care and concern. Ange and her family are shifting north.
Our school has planned for this possibility and is expecting to be able to confirm Ange's replacement next week. Ange's last day will be the end of May.
HFN - Huapai Family Network
Are you keen to be involved in our school life a bit more? Everyone in our school community is part of the HFN - Huapai Family Network. We have a core group of people and then we have a wide net of helpers who jump on board with opportunities as they arise. This year we are looking to host two large fundraising events. One is our Annual Community Quiz in term 3 and the other is a new annual opportunity in connection with the Tough Guy and Gal challenge. If you are interested in being involved in either of these opportunities or are keen to be a part of the core group PLEASE get in touch with our HFN president Katie Lean: katie.lean@hds.school.nz
Ice Pops
Tomorrow (Friday 6th May) our HFN will be selling ice pops at the Station Road gate at 3pm. These ice pops will be $1 each.

Apples For School

The stickers are found on the Yummy branded apples and there are also cut out labels on the bags of apples. Each classroom has a sticker chart for the apple stickers if the children bring them to school. A copy of the sticker chart for home use is also available online or by popping into the front office.
Please return full sticker sheets to the front office.
