Hoover Elementary School News
November 2023
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It's hard to believe we have just finished the first marking period of the school year. We are all settled into our routines and procedures, and learning is alive at Hoover!
Next week, we will have parents/guardians take part in teacher conferences. Your child's teacher sent out a link to sign up for a conference time that is convenient for you. Your partnership with us is an important part of your child's success in their educational journey. This will be a good time to learn about the great things your child is doing at school and also to learn how you can continue to support their academic and behavioral growth at home as well.
Thank you for sharing your child with us.

Leader in Me - Practicing the 7 Habits at Home
Have a plan!
Habit #2 Means:
- I plan ahead and set goals for myself.
- I am prepared at all times.
- I think about how the choices I make now will affect my future.
- I think about the positive or negative consequences of my actions before I act.
This month, sit down with your family and use the questions on the worksheet below to brainstorm how you can apply Habit 2 in your family!
Create a Family Mission Statement:
Mission statements have long been a part of organizations. They provide a clear path for what the organization wants to accomplish and how they plan to go about doing it. Yet, rarely does a family take the time to write a mission statement --- and what organization is more important than the family? By establishing who you are as a family, how you want to be known, and how you plan to do it, you are practicing Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind. The process is a great way to practice all of the 7 Habits.
Use the questions and worksheet below to create your own family mission statement.

Lion PRIDE UPDATES
Lion PRIDE School Store
Thank you for the donations we’ve received for our Hoover Roar Store. Our students show Lion PRIDE every day! They receive Lion PRIDE stickers and stamps. Students save stamps to shop at the Roar Store.
Help Us Roar! Can you make a contribution to our Roar Store? Check out the buttons below for the "Help Us Roar" flyer with links to our Amazon donation wish list.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated items for our PBIS School Store this year!
Lion PRIDE in the Community
The Lion PRIDE at-home calendars are due Monday, November 13. Here's the link to the most recent calendar that was sent home:

We show Lion PRIDE everywhere we go! When an adult recognizes your child for showing Lion PRIDE at home or in the community, the student should color in the pawprint for that day. If students return their calendars with at least 10 of the 14 days’ paw prints colored, they will receive FIVE extra stamps on their 10-frame which means they will have more stamps to go shopping in the school store! Check out the Parent/Guardian letter regarding Lion PRIDE in the community!
Counselor's Corner
Unity Day 2023 was a success! Students and staff identified ways to show kindness in our school, at home, and in the community, and the result was our amazing Unity Tree. Students also enjoyed “Mix it Up” events meeting new friends and connecting with friends they may not usually get to see. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who joined us for Unity Day!
What’s Happening in Guidance: In November, all grades will be focusing on positive friendship skills, conflict resolution, and bullying prevention. We will learn how the progression of these skills assists students in gaining the confidence to stand up for themselves and others while being brave and kind.
National Career Development Week is coming up on November 13th-17th! We believe that connecting our learners to the world of work is a crucial component of their education. Our goal for Career Week is to build upon the unique strengths and interests of our students and encourage them to explore an amazing variety of career choices. Check out our themed spirit days for the week!
