Our Event Management System (EMS) has been upgraded to a NEW system called ADE Professional Learning and Development (APLD). Please use the below updated links and search terms to locate all ELA professional development opportunities. The old Event Management System is available as read-only, you will not be able to register for courses. All of your previous certificates are available in the new system. You can find helpful information on the APLD FAQ page.

To locate all ELA professional learning, visit the Academic Standards APLD section, use the Search for Courses in the upper right hand corner, and type the search term "K12-AS-ELA."

General Info for our book studies:

• Virtual book chats take place via Zoom.
• All participants must register in APLD system to receive credit - each session is offered individually.
• All participants who register in APLD, read their chapter(s), and attend the book study will be given 2-hours PD credit.

In this Synchronous literacy summit (via Zoom) you will learn about the Science of Reading (SoR) from literacy leaders covering topics that include: multilingual learners, highly capable learners, multiage learners, and ELA and cross curricular learning. Register for this virtual summit happening in May!

Mid-year Literacy Assessment Data window 2 opened on Dec. 1st. As you complete your mid-year Universal Screening administration this winter, be sure to enter this data into the MOWR portal, following the same multi-step process as you did in Aug-Oct.

The middle of the school year is a great time to stop and take stock of the path you are on. Middle of year screening results provide useful information for planning what Tier 1 reading instruction should look like for the second half of the school year.

Calling all school-level Dyslexia Training Designees. The ADE ELA team presents Quarterly PLC Meetings for the Dyslexia Training Designee. Please join our quarterly Dyslexia Training Designee PLC, hosted by Maggie Velazquez, Dyslexia and Literacy Intervention Specialist. This is your opportunity to meet with other DTDs in Arizona to collaborate, share, and discuss roles and responsibilities of being your school's DTD. We will build this DTD Professional Learning Community to help support one another in this amazing role, "Dyslexia Training Designee". Please note you do not have to have your DTD trainings completed to attend.

The Success For Secondary Readers Virtual Summit is a free event for teachers, leaders, and partner organizations focused on growing our collective understanding of how best to support secondary students (grades 6-12) in strengthening their reading skills and their ability to successfully engage with complex text. Register for this free event!

ACT National Conference is now open for registration and will be held virtually on Feb. 22nd-23rd.

The Arizona English Teachers' Association (AETA) offers events and professional learning for all English teachers in Arizona, including monthly webinars, a newsletter, and a journal.

Each month, we have been introducing a new section of the science of reading webpage. Over the last fourteen months, we have introduced the Homepage, Structured Literacy, Brain Research, Reading Researchers, SOR Terminology, Educational Equity, SOR Articles, Podcasts, Books, the Simple View of Reading, Scarborough's Reading Rope, The Four-Part Processor, It Takes Leadership, and Structured Literacy and English Learners.

This month, let’s learn more about the science of reading with our final section, the Reading League Chapters. The Reading League is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-aligned reading instruction. Arizona does not currently have its own chapter, however you can check out resources from the Reading League National Organization as well as several other state chapters.

Tips for Supporting Coaches

• Clearly communicate a vision for coaching
• Clearly separate supervision and support responsibilities
• Prioritize time for coaches to actively work with teachers by minimizing non-coaching roles
• Foster a culture that coaching is for everyone
• Keep coaching conversations confidential
• Focus on student learning
• Ensure coaches have their own professional learning and support opportunities
