SGB Week Ahead

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, delicious food and fun. While this is the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR, it's definitely the busiest too! Please print out this week's message as there is a great deal of information for this week/month!

If your family is like mine, this weekend began the official transformation from Thanksgiving to Christmas in our home. We spent lots of time together putting up our outdoor decorations and lights, while pulling out our ornaments, and other holiday items that make our home cozy and festive.

But it's a lot.

It takes time, (and patience!), and energy to "prepare our homes for Christmas."

As we were hustling and bustling to give our home the annual holiday makeover, I needed to remember that while all the decorations are lovely...it's important for us, as Catholics, to keep in mind what we are truly preparing for in the coming weeks.

As we get ready for the start of ADVENT next weekend, let's offer up this prayer to help us remain focused on what is most important as we live our faith.

Heavenly Father, your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us, a sign of your love.

Guide us as we walk in that love together as a family during Advent this year.

As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to your son.

Give us the grace and strength we need every day.

Help us to always trust in you.

Come, Lord Jesus, lead all people closer to you.

Come and light the world with your love.

Amen.

• Please give a warm SGB welcome to our new music teacher, Mr. Albert Natoli! Mr. Natoli comes to us with a Masters Degree in Music Education and Composition, as well as 30 years experience working with students in elementary and middle school. He is an accomplished musician playing both the piano and the guitar, and his references were exceptional. We are blessed to have finally found him and I believe he was worth the wait for our SGB students!

SGB ART SHOW

ALL GRADES

Families can tour the art exhibits from 6:30-7pm.

If your child will NOT be attending, please let his/her teacher know. (Thank you!)

The first service project will be the SGB Gift/Toy Drive.

Our SGB students will be receiving information this week about this service project if they have not received already.

SGB Students will be asked to:

1. Buy one toy/gift for a 4-year old boy or girl (students will be assigned one) in the Haverstraw Head Start Program. (For many of these children, this may be the only gift they receive during the Christmas season.)

2. Stay within a budget of $15-$20, you will receive a list of suggested items this age group would enjoy.

3. Start bringing in the UNWRAPPED gift on 12/1.

4. Participate in a WRAPPING PARTY on 12/8 with their classmates and church buddies to wrap the gifts.

5. Select students will be invited to deliver the SGB gifts to the Head Start Program in Haverstraw on 12/19, along with the Folk Group singing Christmas carols, and Santa! (A bus will provide transportation there and back to SGB).

The second project will be ongoing throughout the month of December...

SGB FOOD DRIVE for the local food pantry through Catholic Charities.

Each week in December, students will be asked to contribute an item to help our local food pantry. (More info coming next week!).

SGB is excited to announce our upcoming Children's Theater program will begin on Monday, December 4 from 2:45-5:30pm. All students who participate from grades 2-8 will sing, dance and act in our Spring production of "ANNIE JR."

Each weekly workshop will include drama, dance, voice and prep (preparation for the upcoming show). Students will rotate and work on each discipline in small groups.

VOLUNTEERS:

ALL VOLUNTEERS must complete the ADNY Safer Spaces Training online. CLICK HERE FOR THE TRAINING. Fill out the form and send it to the school prior to beginning the online training.

Many of you have already done this in years past for SGBS and if that's the case you don't need to repeat it. If you took the training at another ADNY school you'll need to repeat it for here.

1. CHANGES in DISMISSAL or ABSENCES

• Please complete the online form to notify the SGB Staff of any changes in your child's dismissal or if your child will be absent. Any child who is absent for 3 or more days must have a note from a doctor upon return. Thank you!

2. PARKING

• Please avoid parking in the teachers' parking lot. There is available parking in the church parking lot if you should arrive early. Please wait there until your child's drop off time.

3. VISITING SGB & NEW SIGN IN

• In an effort to keep our school safe and know when guests are in the building at all times, ALL adults will sign in when they enter.
