Art Club
Art Club is open to all students who wish to explore creative expression through art. The club goals this year include continuing work on the hallway mural and helping with set painting for the musical. There is always an opportunity for open studio/choice based art.
The first Art Club meeting is Tuesday, September 24th, from 3-4pm in Mrs.Ernstes’s room (311).
Art Club will remain on Tuesdays throughout the school year from 3-4pm. If school is canceled because of inclement weather there will be no Art Club. If there is a scheduled half day there will be no Art Club.
Contact Mrs. Ernstes (mernstes@otsegops.org) for questions or additional information.
Auditorium Tech Crew
Events in the Otsego Auditorium are run by students. Tech Crew is a per trimester commitment and students run events during that trimester. We meet in the auditorium on Wednesday after school until 4:30 PM to learn skills needed for events. While on tech crew, students are encouraged to build a simple digital portfolio including the types of events and skills they have done. The portfolios can be used for future employment at other venues and related work. Interested students should join the Auditorium Tech Crew Google Classroom with the code mazklf6.
Book Club
Book Club meets monthly to discuss books, share in food and fellowship, sometimes watch a related film, and pick the next month's book.
The kick-off meeting to get the first book and set up a calendar will be on Thursday, September 5th, in Mrs. Trometter's room (134), immediately after school, and will last about 15-20 minutes.
Monthly discussion meetings generally last 30-45 minutes for discussion, and longer if there is a film afterwards. Contact Mrs. Trometter (jtrometter@otsegops.org) with any questions!
GSA
Come One, Come All!! Our GSA Club is here to support students by supporting a safe learning environment for all students, including LGBTQ+ students. This club meets once a week, usually 3-3:45. The first meeting is Thursday, September 5th, after school in Mrs. Knetsch's room (235). Contact Mrs. Knetsch (cknetsch@otsegops.org) with any questions!
International Student Ambassadors (ISA)
If you are interested in forming and maintaining connections with other people from around the world, then this club is for you. International Student Ambassadors is open to all high school students who want to connect with others and participate in monthly outings.
ISA is created in the spring of the previous school year (May/June) to prepare students as they work with all incoming foreign exchange students in the fall.
If this excites you, look for the flyers and listen for announcements in May!
LINKS
LINKS is a peer to peer program where students sign up for an elective class to support a friend in the building with diverse learning needs. Students learn about various disabilities, how to problem solve, and build empathy for others while in LINKS. If you are interested in joining, please email Mrs. Garrett at mgarrett@otsegops.org.
Musical
Musicals at OHS have been a huge part of the community for many years. The musical is open to all OHS students and provides them with a new educational experience!
Interested students should join the Musical Google Classroom with the code t5326dm. Auditions take place December 17th and 18th. Rehearsals begin after winter break. Musical performances are on March 27, 28, 29, and 30. This year's musical will be announced soon! Stay tuned!!

National Honor Society
The National Honor Society's mission is to build up student leaders and serve the community. NHS students do a variety of service projects throughout the year including the paper recycling program, the Christmas toy drive, and Roof Sit for Kids. To be accepted into NHS, you must have at least a 3.5 GPA (unweighted), show that you have great character, show that you are involved in volunteer activities, and explain your leadership capabilities or practices. NHS has at least one service project a month, and members donate at least nine hours of time throughout the course of the year.
The National Honor Society is open for any junior or senior who wishes to apply and meets the above requirements. The application can be found on the school's website under "Student Life". The application deadline this year is September 23. Any questions about the application process or what NHS is all about should be directed to Mrs. Wideen (kwideen@otsegops.org).
Purple Committee
Otsego's Purple Committee makes a difference in a cause near and dear to so many families. Every other year, Otsego hosts a Purple Week where our student body, athletic teams and our community trade in the blue & gold and wear purple to raise awareness and money to fight cancer and Parkinson's disease. 100% of funds raised go to medical research at Van Andel Institute, a world-renowned facility in Grand Rapids.
Students not only join forces with VAI's broader Purple Community effort, they get up close and personal with the cause, attending special events at Van Andel Institute to learn more about the research taking place and the impact they make through Purple Week. Otsego has raised $146,540 since its first event in 2010. Our next Purple Week is this fall and is already in full swing!
To join, contact Mrs. McCaw at hmccaw@otsegops.org.
SADD
SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions. This group focused on making good decisions with regard to drugs, alcohol, and driving. For the last seven years the SADD group at OHS has received a $1000 grant through the highway traffic safety division of the Michigan State Police. Otsego SADD also received the Outstanding Traffic Safety Award for the entire state of Michigan in 2019.
SADD welcomes anyone who wants to join the group. Contact Mrs. Henry at khenry@otsegops.org for more information, or stop by to see her in Room 222.
Student Council
Student Council consists of 6 elected class representatives that serve a one-year term. Student Council members meet monthly to organize Homecoming and Snowcoming, blood drives, food drives, and other events and fundraisers. Petitions are available in the main office and from Mrs. Scott. Elections will be held at class meetings on August 29th, where potential representatives will give a short speech to their class.
For more information, contact Mrs. Scott (mscott@otsegops.org).
Tabletop Game Club
The Tabletop Gaming Club is a place for any and all students to come play card games, board games, or any game that is played on a table. Whether it be Shoots and Ladders, Hand and Foot, or Dungeon and Dragons there is a place for you! We will be meeting every Tuesday in the Media Center from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. The first meeting of the school year is still yet to be determined. You can bring your own games to play or if you talk to Mr. Conway about a game, he may be able to find a copy to bring to the next meeting. You can email Mr. Conway at bconway@otsegops.org with any questions you may have.
Robotics - Alotobots 5152
In FRC (First Robotics Competition), high school students collaborate to design, build, and program a large-scale, complex robot to compete in a game-like challenge that changes every year. The challenge typically involves tasks that require the robot to perform a series of actions such as picking up and manipulating objects, navigating obstacles, and working with other robots in a dynamic and time-sensitive environment.
FRC offers students a unique hands-on learning experience where they develop technical skills, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and leadership qualities. The competition also provides opportunities for students to connect with mentors, industry professionals, and colleges, potentially opening doors to future educational and career paths in STEM fields.
Please see Mr. Miller for more information at mmiller@otsegops.org. We will be having a meeting in early September to get organized for the year. The season starts the first week of January.
Unified Champion Schools
UCS is a club/sports team here at OHS that combines students with and without disabilities together to play sports. It is part of Special Olympics Michigan. We have three sports we compete in throughout the year, one per season. In the Fall we play soccer, in the Spring we play bocce ball, and this year, in the Winter we will play basketball. We have practices after school once a week and play games and tournaments during school or after school against other local UCS teams. You will get a calendar with practices and games at the start of each season. You can play in one sport or all three sports throughout the year.
UCS DOES NOT take away eligibility to compete in other high school sports so you can be on UCS and another high school sport in the same season with your coach's approval. All skill levels are encouraged to participate and no prior knowledge of the sport is needed. We are here to help you learn and coach you on how to play and what is expected.
Please fill out the Unified Champion Schools Interest Form below if you are interested in joining, and indicate which sports you would like to participate in.
Not interested in playing sports? No problem! We are always looking for volunteers to help set up, keep score, officiate, and hang out with the athletes at events and games. When you sign up, just mark that you are interested in volunteering only!
Yearbook
Yearbook is now a class; however, yearbook staff members are always looking for additional help with photography, writing, and advertising! If you are interested in helping, but can't fit the yearbook class into your schedule, see Mrs. Trometter or contact her at jtrometter@otsegops.org. The staff would love your help
