There is a saying that flight attendants say, "Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the overhead area. Please place the mask over your own mouth and nose before assisting others." This pandemic has made it hard to breathe for everyone. Before we can help others and before we can be leaders, we must first take care of ourselves.

This three part leadership camp will help you find ways to cope with stress and anxiety so that you can become the leader you want to be. You can attend all 3 or choose the topics that interest you the most.

This three-part series is specially designed for students entering grades 9 through 12.

Participants can join for one, two or three of the following dates of this series:

• Day 1 - Finding Your Light! - Saturday, July 24, 2021 1:00pm - 7:00pm

• Day 2 - Finding Your Way! - Saturday, July 31, 2021 1:00pm - 7:00pm

• Day 3 - A First Aid Kit for Life! - Saturday, August 7, 2021 1:00pm - 7:00pm

Discover how happiness and optimism can make you more successful and a better leader! Campers will create connections with others and explore self-awareness including understanding their personalities and those around them. Through several interactive initiatives, campers will learn how setting realistic goals and utilizing effective communication can increase their overall happiness. The day will also include mindfulness and relaxation activities such as hikes and campfire story time.

A compass doesn't tell you where to go, it just sends you in the right direction. Let's discover the path that will help you grow and determine your future goals.

Campers will take an individual visualization journey to gain relaxation and mindfulness skills. There will be opportunities to explore nature and build teamwork through geocaching and trail hikes. Group activities will allow participants to grow more socially aware and build relationship skills that will benefit them where they travel in life.

Grab the tape, let's make a connection. Where are the bandages to wrap others with kindness and support? Let's find that whistle so we can call for help when we are lost. And maybe an ice pack for forgiving others when our ego gets bruised. And of course some aspirin to remind us of patience - it takes time for pain to pass.

During this session campers will explore the resources they need for a healthy, happy life. They will learn how properly utilizing effective communication can foster trusting relationships while participating in group activities. Facing challenges as a group and individually will offer opportunities for campers to improve their patience and empathy, within themselves and with others. Campers will also grow their knowledge of the resources needed to maintain a positive attitude to be more encouraging to others.

Please note that transportation will not be provided by the school, districts, or by the GISD. Students/parents are responsible for transportation to and from Ligon Outdoor Center for each day of the series.

• Signed/dated Terms and Conditions Form
• Signed/dated Video/Photo Release Form

We are also encouraging schools/districts to sponsor students to attend this camp. Please review the following form, to be completed by your student’s school/district, as an opportunity to have the session fees paid by your district. This is subject to your school’s/district’s discretion, is not guaranteed, or required for student participation. If your student’s school/district agrees to cover session fees, the completed/signed form can be returned via email to ligon@geneseeisd.org, faxed to 810-591-4420 or brought with your student(s) on the day of camp.

Feel free to complete these forms and return them via email to ligon@geneseeisd.org or they can be turned in upon arrival to camp.

We are encouraging the school(s)/district(s) to cover the costs to sponsor one or mulitiple students to attend this leadership camp series. Your district can be invoiced for this event.

To sponsor students, please complete and sign the Payment Agreement form embeded below or available here . Please return via email to ligon@geneseeisd.org, fax it to 810-591-4420 or have the student bring this document with them the day of the camp. A separate form will need to be completed for each student you are sponsoring from your district.
