SNAP Media Catalog
We are using best practices and safety protocols on cleaning the materials housed and circulated through the Mississippi Bend AEA Media Center. Once circulation begins, our partnering teachers and district staff might encounter some delays in receiving their materials due to our increased cleaning protocols.
Statewide Databases
Based on survey results, statewide database stats will be distributed twice a year (at the end of each semester). Thank you to all who participated in the survey.
Usernames/Passwords
All statewide databases now require username and passwords. Some databases had removed this requirement at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
MBAEA Media Production Services
Media Production Services are located in the Media Center. We will tentatively be open to the public August 17, 2020.
For the health and safety of our staff and customers, services will be available by appointment only. Please email or call us at 563-344-6459 to make an appointment!
The equipment can be used free of charge; however, there are charges for consumable items, such as lamination and paper. Teachers are welcome to bring their own paper and spiral binders or purchase materials at the Media Center for use with the equipment.

The MBAEA is excited to share the release of professional learning playlists and modules that will meet the ever changing needs of teachers, teacher leaders, and administrators within the Iowa Academic Standards component for Return to Learn and beyond. The professional learning playlists are housed within the following google site: https://sites.google.com/aea9.k12.ia.us/mbaea/home.
These online playlists and modules have been prepared and vetted through various AEA personnel, utilizing DE and national level organization materials. There are four main topic areas:
Teaching in a Virtual/Blended Setting
Authentic Assessment and Feedback
Maximize Opportunities for Grade Level Learning and Address Unfinished Instruction
Supporting SEBH in MTSS
Each playlist has a number of modules within it. These modules can be stand-alone learning or bundled, they can be engaged with individually or with small groups. Please note: the SEBH modules will be released mid-August and there are a few modules, under the other playlist areas, under construction. These will be ready very soon!
We are working on developing a syllabus for these modules to be bundled together in order to receive credit. More information will be coming on this soon.
Professional Development
There are courses offered virtually throughout the entire state on a variety of topics. Check out course listings and registration at AEA PD Registration site. Use the same login for the site where you take mandatory reporter, bloodborne pathogens, etc. If you don't remember your password, click Forgot Password at the bottom of the page. Having trouble with your username? It may be your personal email, not your school email.
For employment related training visit AEA PD Learning Online.
Paraeducator Generalist Certification
The series of three courses cover the competencies as directed by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE). These competencies cover the skills needed for a paraeducator to be successful in the classroom. It is recommended that the courses be taken in sequential order. The series is a total of 90 hours of training that is a blend of face-to-face (or virtual) course time and online work. Each of the paraeducator generalist courses requires 30 hours to complete. Participants will need to have access to a computer and the internet to be able to complete all courses.
Upcoming Courses!!!!
Section 294548 - Begins October 13, 2020 (registration closes October 6th)
Section 294549 - Begins November 10, 2020 (registration closes November 2nd)

Substitute Authorization
Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a new proclamation as of July 17, 2020, which allows for increased flexibility in the use of substitute teachers during the disaster emergency period as follows:
The day limitation (5 days in a row, 10 days in a month, in any one assignment) for holders of a substitute authorization is removed, and the long-term substitute day limit (90 days) is removed.
The degree requirement to obtain a substitute authorization is changed from a bachelor’s degree to an associate’s degree or 60 semester hours through a regionally-accredited institution. The substitute authorization course is still required.
The age requirement of 21 years of age for a substitute authorization is changed to age 20.
Paraeducators who hold the limited substitute authorization to serve as a substitute only in their own special education classroom may serve as a substitute in any classroom (except driver’s ed).
Paraeducators need to hold a substitute authorization to serve as a substitute teacher.
If the paraeducator holds a regular substitute authorization, they may serve as a substitute teacher in any classroom except driver’s ed (this is not a change).
If the paraeducator holds the limited substitute authorization to serve as a substitute teacher only in their own special education classroom, they may substitute in any classroom during this proclamation.
Holders of a career and technical authorization with at least one year of experience may serve as a substitute in any classroom (except driver’s ed).
Due to COVID 19 we will be offering these sessions virtually!
