Greetings from Groveport Elementary

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Each year in January at one of our staff meetings, we choose our "One Word" for the year. We got this idea from Jon Gordon's book, One Word that will change your life and thought it would be fun to do and it is much more effective than New Year’s resolutions. In our busy stressed-filled world with tons of distractions, the research shows that 9 out of 10 people will fail with their resolutions. But one word sticks. Just one word that gives you meaning, mission, passion and purpose. It is different for everyone and how you find your word is just as important as the word itself. Some teachers read the book, One Word for Kids to our students and have them pick their word for the year. I love hearing the kids tell me about their word and why they chose it. So many of them are very thoughtful and serious about choosing their word. If you could choose only one word to help you have your best year, what would it be? Love? Believe? Joy? Kindness?

Other teachers had students start the new year off with creating "I AM' posters or writing New Year, New Me essays. We are all optimistic for an outstanding rest of the year!

Students have been putting forth a lot of effort on the iready mid-year diagnostic assessment to show us what they have learned. We are currently around 78% completion for Reading and 54% completion for Math. The testing window closes next Friday and you will receive your child's score report along with a letter explaining the results.

Teachers have done an outstanding job creating a positive testing environment for our students. Also incentivizing students for putting forth their best effort. They have had data chats with the kids where they discussed and set growth goals with students. Students received their target for winter and reviewed an iready to do list for when they are testing. December Students of the Month

We are so proud of our December Students of the Month. Congratulations to the following students: Jaihlen Mitchell, Emma Hand, Jaxon Duey, Dylan Brewer, Kelsey Partlow, Harlow Ridenour, Phoebe Bayly, Mohamed Parish-Kone, Addie Bonilla, Jaxon Bradley, Noah Longmire, Travis Burbacher, Kellan Campbell, William Gillies, Rosie Garcia, Dillon Davis, Aiden Gillies, Logan Burbacher, Ja'Siah Bohanna, Ahmed Al Saadi, Tyler Spaulding, Jayden Smalley, Gunner Grubbs, and Aries Cole! The Character Trait for December was Respectful. The students enjoyed lunch with Mrs. Robetoy, Mrs. Bray, and the other students of the month. They were very appreciative of the pizza, cupcakes, and Student of the Month shirt. The character trait for January is Self-Discipline and Goal Setting.

Cruiser STAR Awards are given to students by staff members for students who show characteristics of being a Cruiser STAR - Stay Safe, Take Responsibility, Act Respectfully, Reach Goals. Students come to the office and put their gold STAR in our Treasure Box. Every Friday, Mrs. Bray picks 15 - 20 STARs from the Treasure Box and calls those students to the office for a prize.
