MUSKRAT NEWSLETTER
September 2023
Happy Fall, Everyone!!
With the nerves and craziness of the first week of school behind us we are beginning to focus a little more on something very important to Muddy Creek - COMMUNITY.
I've heard from many of you that getting our community vibe back after the pandemic-who-will-not-be-named was rough. Like, maybe it didn't happen at all. Well get ready, because we're getting back into it this year!
We've already seen you come out in droves to the Summer BBQ Potluck, the Kinder and 4th grade Meet-and-greets were very well attended, and I counted about 40 parents at the first All-School Meeting last week! In this month's newsletter I'm going to highlight a handful of ways you can become involved in our little school community - and I'm going to do some shout-outs to people who have already done a lot to get our year started right :)
Hope to see you soon,
Principal Danforth
UPCOMING DATES
9/21 - Open House from 5-7! Kona Ice Truck will be here, Book Fair will be ON, and it will be fun :)
9/22 - Mountain Day from 9-2ish. All family members welcome, bring your lunch & hiking boots.
10/9 - NO SCHOOL DAY. Staff Inservice/Training Day, no students.
10/19 - Vision Screening for All Students. Remember to bring glasses if they have them.
MOUNTAIN DAY FAMILY TRIP
This event is important because it not only allows us to experience something amazing and beautiful together, as a community, but it also helps students visualize our PLACE. That is the first step in our PLACE-based learning journey. This is a different kind of field trip in that all family members are invited as well...
Whether it's a refresher for our older students or the fisrt trip for our littles, this is a long-standing Muddy Creek tradition that everyone looks forward to!

REMINDERS FROM THE OFFICE
✔ Please complete your AUTHORIZED STUDENT PICK UP FORM as soon as possible. It is so important that we know who is allowed to pick up your children so that no one goes home with the wrong people. Using the google form, you can specify up to 6 people to be on your approved list. Please call the office if you need to add more names. Beginning October 1st Morgan will no longer release students to adults not on your Authorized Pick-Up List - even if they are other parents or if they have picked them up before.
✔ Rainy season is almost upon us, but that doesn't stop our Muddy Muskrats from being outside! When raining, students will be required to wear their rain gear: rain jacket, boots, rain pants (when it's really coming down). MCCS provides jackets and pants for all students, boots should be provided by families. If a student refuses to wear appropriate rain gear for recess/project time they may be asked to stay in the covered area. Warm, dry students are safer and easier to teach :)
THANK YOU HELPERS!!!
Garden Party
Thank you to all the mysterious garden helpers who keep popping out to water, weed, and generally spruce things up in the garden! It looks so welcoming and well cared-for, the kids will love growing in it!
Inservice Helper Crew
Lester and Roen Oehler came out a couple times during inservice week to help get classrooms set up and to move A LOT of furniture upstairs - wow!!! We genuinely couldn't have done it without you 🏋
Staffroom Make-Over
BIG shout-out to Julie Jacobs and her helpers Leena Magdeleno and Candace Mackey for seriously beautifying the staff room. It looks so good we are going to start calling it a staff LOUNGE!

Sunshine Squad (aka: PTO)
Several families have asked how they can get more involved in helping MCCS. One easy way is to become a member of the Parent Teacher Organization! Out PTO helps plan fundraising events, volunteers regularly in the school, and generally brings the sunshine to our students and staff. We are looking for people who can meet once a month and jump in with both muddy feet :) Please fill out our Sunshine Squad/PTO Interest Form if you would like to help out...
