The Parkland Press
May 19, 2024
Good Evening Mustangs,
This is Noel Keener, the proud principal of Parkland High with this weeks announcements. It was a PACKED WEEK last week with lots of celebrations- we celebrated our student athletes with our awards ceremony, we had our outstanding Spring Dance Concert, and, unfortunately staff lost for the first time to students in the Student v Staff Basketball Game.
As you heard this week, all secondary schools in the WSFCS system will be conducting Safe Entry Screenings at least 3 days a week every week until the school year ends. Please remember that we will scan all day. Reducing the amount of bags or using clear bags will speed up this process. All community members who attend end of year events will also be screened. By mid week next week, we will have special entry for students who on carry ONLY their computer bag. This will decrease their wait time.
Next wee is SPIRIT WEEK! Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Nerd v Athlete Day, Wednesday is "Anything but a Backpack", Thursday is Rep Your Class (Freshmen wear white, Sophomores wear black, Juniors wear blue, and Seniors wear red). Friday is Throwback day.
We need your input! Please take time so see our PTSA Questionnaire in our newsletter and on our website.
EOC Tutoring continues this week. See our newsletter for details. Saturday, June 1 will have an EOC Blitz starting at 9am. This will be a GREAT opportunity for your child to improve his or her skills and have the information they need to ace their End of Course State Exam!
Tuesday is Senior Awards Practice and Senior Picnic and Wednesday is Senior Awards Day. Seniors can enter early (8:00am) on these days if they wear their senior shirt on Tuesday and Graduation Gown on Wednesday. Tuesday night we will have the our IB Personal Project Showcase and Seedling Sale. Come out and see the projects of our scholars AND buy some items to start your garden- our greenhouse is up and running thanks to our Personal Project Class!
Please remember if you need a clear bag, our Booster Club is selling sling bags for only $10.
May 23 is Spring Fling! This is a whole school celebration leading to exams. Students will be time after 2:15 to explore all the fun and games we have planned for them. There will also be food trucks if you need a snack!
Exams begin THIS WEEK! ON Friday, we will have 1st and 3rd block B Day year long class Teacher Made Exams. The remaining Teacher Made Exams are the week of May 27. Exams are 20% of your child's grade. Exam exemption status for teacher made exams will be provided to students by May 20 and May 21. This is subject to change based on course progress and attendance up until day of exam. If exams are exempted, only that class will be an excused absence. Attendance will be taken in all 4 classes each day.
Senior Families, all the information you need leading to graduation practice and graduation is in the Parkland Press!

PTSA Survey
The Parkland Magnet High School PTSA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders and community members is important to the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which grows partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students.
We need your help! As part of the process outlined by National PTA, we are requesting feedback from families, administrators and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. Using the community feedback, we will build an Excellence Action Plan to strengthen family-sc hool partnerships.
Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete this survey. Please complete this survey by Friday May 24, 2024.
