Attendance Updates
Lesson on the Week
Our 8th graders just started a unit called, The Force and Motion Engineering Internship. In this unit, they apply their understanding of forces, mass, motion, and Newton’s laws to design a rescue pod that could safely drop rescue supplies to Earth from a helicopter. On day two, students read about air resistance and then built their first iteration of a design pod to protect a plastic egg as they dropped their pods to the classroom floors. Ask out 8th graders to tell you about what factors will influence the success of their rescue pods!
Weekly Vocabulary Focus Words
We are working on 5 school-wide vocabulary words each week. We will discuss the meaning in homeroom, announcements, class, etc. Please practice these words at home and help us build up our Knights Tier 2 vocabulary!

Every Student Succeeds Act
Dear Parent or Guardian,
On December 10, 2015, President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) into law.
The law states that any school that receives funds for educationally disadvantaged students (Title I funds) must inform parents if their child is assigned a teacher for four or more consecutive weeks who has not met applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which they have been assigned to teach.
As of this writing, the following teachers are considered out of field or their license or are currently waiting for the application to process.
- Patrick Jiner
- Lauren Churchwell
- Bradley LoStracco
- Katrina Eike
- William Morgan
- Nicole Saran
- Ben Buchanan
However, they are all currently working to obtain their final credentials and we have full confidence in their ability to teach effectively in this assignment.
If you have any questions regarding qualifications, please feel free to contact me at Amanda_McDonald@dpsk12.net
For additional information about the requirements for teacher qualifications under the ESSA, please visit the Colorado Department of Education's website at: http://www.cde.state.co.us/fedprograms/ti/index.
