Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!! “Montessori Community School guides the self-development of the whole child so each student is empowered to make a positive impact on the world.” All of us here at MCS look forward to supporting your children as they continue their self-development this school year.
Here is an introduction to all of our new staff member. We look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Ms. Rachel
My name is Annie Dickson and I am super excited to teach Upper Elementary at MCS! I became interested in finding an alternative to the more traditional classroom setting after the birth of my first child. (He is now a senior at CofC by the way! Holy cow!) My research led me to the Montessori philosophy, and I was so inspired that I decided to get certified to teach Montessori myself! Students have the time and safe space they need to explore their individual journeys, intrinsically building self-discipline with which they can find their place in our world. I also have a BA in Theatre Performance which lends itself to tons of fun with student-led cross-curricular skits, project-based learning, and general shenanigans while learning in the classroom! When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my eight year old son Sagan, my husband, our adorable terrier mutt Mako, our cat Daisy May, and Twinkle Bell, our rowdy Siamese kitten. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great year!
Hello! I’m Carter Cothran and I just moved down from the Upstate of SC (Greenville/Anderson) I went to Anderson University and have been teaching elementary music now for 2 years. My main instrument is the Tuba and it’s as awesome as it sounds! I am passionate about Music Education. I believe it can bring people together in amazing ways. I’m very excited to meet you all!
Hi, I am Courtenay Rivers and I am the new Numeracy Assistant at MCS! I was born in Charleston, SC. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in French from the College of Charleston and a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina. I have taught in CCSD as a teacher librarian for 11 years - eight in a middle school and three at an elementary school. I love paper crafting and traveling. I have three nieces - J'Niyah, Zoe, and Isla, two nephews Haven Elias and Nicolas Edgar, and a "cat nephew" named Rylee Oliver. The Montessori program closely matches my philosophy of education so I am very happy that I get the opportunity to work with a great team of teachers and students.
