PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
As we head into the last week of school before winter break, I want to take a moment to recognize and thank our family volunteers. This year we have slowly welcomed volunteers back into our building, to provide a thoughtful and informational training session for them, and to reset some norms to continue to uphold student safety in our building. We have received so much positive feedback from families, staff, and students, and it’s great to have our school feel like the hub of the community one more.
We are happy to share that we will be offering the training two more times on Wednesday, Jan 11, 2022 at 6pm and Friday, January 13th at 9am in the school Library.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Warmly,
Amanda

DEAN OF STUDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
At this point in the school year, we take time to conduct our mid-year assessments. We use this assessment data to plan instruction for the remainder of the school year, track individual student growth, and target student needs for intervention or enrichment. In addition to classroom assessments, we focus on two district-wide assessments.
Kindergarteners are currently taking the PALS reading assessment. This is conducted 1:1 with their teacher and measures their knowledge of letter names and sounds, rhyming, and word reading.
All 1st Grade through 5th Grade students take the iReady digital assessment in both reading and mathematics. This is an adaptive test and students receive questions at their working level. Each assessment is broken into content specific sections and teachers use the data to pinpoint areas of need and celebrations.
Every student at Eagle Crest has been learning and growing this year! We use lots of formal and informal data to understand them as a learner and to inform our instruction. We look forward to sharing student progress with you in the new year. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us.
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students
Eagle Crest Elementary School

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT
It’s hard to believe, but it is already time to register for Kindergarten for the 23-24 school year. If you have a child who will be turning 5 on or before Oct. 1st please submit an online registration for the 2023-2024 school year. More information can be found on the SVVSD website. While registration is ongoing, it is helpful to have our Kindergarten students register early for planning purposes.
Students in K-5 who are currently open enrolled at Eagle Crest do not need to complete the process again to continue attending for next year. Current 5th grade students who are open enrolled and who would like to attend Altona will need to complete the process again since it is a new school. If you have any questions about the open enrollment process or Kindergarten registration, please contact Dinah in our main office. sherwood_dinah@svvsd.org or 303-485-6073.

Dear Eagle Crest Families,
We surveyed our wonderful teachers and staff to find out what supplies and treats they love! If you’re looking for ideas for staff appreciation, check out our Staff Favorite Things List. School district employees cannot accept gifts valued $50 or greater. Letters from students expressing gratitude and appreciation are always appreciated!
Cast Your Vote - 5th grade is requesting funds for field trip bus transportation. Vote for this funding request by Sunday, December 18th here.
Bring your stash of clean Longmont Dairy milk caps back to school next week before the holidays to raise money for our school. The collection bin is by the front office.
On January 24th at 8 PM, we are hosting a virtual Family Tech Talk with an internet safety expert from Trend Micro. The link will be sent out in January.
Take care,
Jenn Pensy, PTO president

MWEBAZA UPDATE
The Chicken Coop!
The chicken coop at Mwebaza Annex received 250 new baby chicks in October. After a couple of years, the chickens they started the program with weren’t laying as many eggs anymore and it was time to sell them and get new ones. These cute babies are growing up and will soon start laying eggs.
The staff at Mwebaza Annex are working hard toward the goals of self-sufficiency and sustainability! They mix their own feed to make sure the chickens are fed a diet that provides vitamins and nutrients to keep them healthy. The chickens also get vaccinated and seen by a local veterinarian on a regular basis.
When the students return to school in 2023, some of the eggs will be part of their school lunches and some will be sold to community members to generate funds to meet school expenses and run a sustainable program.
Mwebaza Annex School and the Mwebaza Foundation have a great partnership based on the shared goals of sustainability, friendship, and innovation.

UPDATED - JOB OPPORTUNITY - PART TIME PRESCHOOL PARAPROFESSIONAL
We have an opening for a PART TIME Preschool Paraeducator in our wonderful Pre-K classroom. We are specifically looking for someone to work Wednesdays and Fridays, 8am-3pm. This could be a perfect fit for a parent or family member looking to work the same hours as their child’s schedule at school. We are looking for a thoughtful, kind, caring adult, who has a lot of patience, a heart for small children, and a commitment to public education. If this sounds like you, please reach out and check the job posting on the SVVSD website!
JOB OPPORTUNITY - NEW CAMPUS SUPERVISOR POSITION
The safety of our school environments has always been a top priority in St. Vrain Valley Schools. As the district continues to invest in security upgrades, mental health resources, counselors, and other supports to ensure the well-being and success of our students, we are excited to share that a new Campus Supervisor position will be provided to all elementary schools in the district.
Currently at all middle and high schools in St. Vrain, Campus Supervisors promote safe and secure learning environments for students by providing an additional layer of facility monitoring, oversight, and communication regarding any potential risks or safety concerns. These roles also play an important part in fostering a positive building environment by building relationships with students and serving as another trusted adult in the building.
If you or someone you know is interested in applying for one of these 26 new positions, a job description and application can be accessed starting Monday, October 31 at https://www.applitrack.com/stvrain/onlineapp/default.aspx?Category=Security.
LUNCH MENU & COLOR DAY SCHEDULE
Our Music, PE, and Art classes are on a 3 day rotation. Every school day is either a Red, Gold, or Purple day. These colors are shared on our school lunch menu to help families plan ahead for necessary supplies like sneakers for PE.
ADD MONEY TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL BREAKFAST & LUNCH ACCOUNT
MySchoolBucks is the website you want to access in order to add funds to your child’s account for purchasing breakfast, lunch, or milk at school. This system will send you reminders and can manage the account of multiple students. Money can also be sent to school by check or cash. Please label any checks or cash with the students first name, last name, and teacher.
If you haven’t yet, you can apply for Free & Reduced meals to see if your family qualifies for free meals. Applying for Free & Reduced lunch will help manage fees (like iPad Insurance or sports) and also helps our school receive additional funds and services. We encourage all families to complete the application.
