Upcoming Vision of the Graduate Workshop
Opportunities to Participate
We will facilitate a Vision of the Graduate Workshop on 1/17 at 3pm in the CHS library and want to welcome voices from across the community. The process of building a vision of the graduate should involve perspectives from students, staff, parents/guardians, alumni, and other contributors within the Canton community. Please read below for some additional background and information on the Vision of the Graduate process and if interested, please submit the brief Google Form linked at the bottom of this section.
What is a Vision of the Graduate?
School districts have been developing Vision of the Graduate models and generally as part of the reaccreditation process. CHS is in the midst of that process and the development of a comprehensive, representative vision for graduates is an important step in this work. The goal is to bring voices from across the educational and corporate community together to develop priority skills and traits graduates will need to be successful beyond their K-12 education. Once those areas are identified, a model will be built that will allow students to self-assess their attainment of those skills and attributes as they advance through their CPS education.
What to expect at the workshop
Stakeholders will review the visioning process, collaborate on priority areas, and seek to develop a representative vision for current and future CPS students. This work will dovetail with the recent district-wide Strategic Planning process which led to refreshed Core Values and Mission Statement.
Bulldogs Beyond the Classroom
Mr. Goff recently hosted members of the US Secret Service as well as Norfolk County Judge Joseph Johnston to present to his social studies classes.
Members of the US Secret Service shared their experiences and job responsibilities. The agents also discussed the current trends in cyber-security and how those concerns continue to evolve.
Judge Johnston has visited CHS in the past and again treated our students to a candid and in-depth presentation on the court system including roles and responsibilities, and an open question and answer period. He was joined by other members of the Norfolk County Juvenile Court to provide a comprehensive presentation.

CHS Fitness Facilities- Major Upgrade
The CHS Fitness and Training facilities received a much-needed make-over and our student-athletes can now work out and train in two well-appointed training areas. The Herr Center remains as our functional fitness space and is located across from the library. That space is outfitted with resistance equipment, weights, as well as cardiovascular equipment. There is also ample open floor space for group training including our dance and yoga classes, and afterschool staff wellness courses.
The newly repurposed weight room offers student-athletes an amazing space for training just off the gym and with easy access to the locker rooms. We are proud to offer these spaces for student and staff training/wellness under the guidance of Strength and Conditioning Coach/K-12 Director of Wellness Adam Hughes.
Handbook Highlights- School Hours, afterschool
We noted the arrival times in the last newsletter and we will again use this opportunity to remind students and families of school hours.
We have seen a growing number of students remaining in the school well beyond dismissal. In some instances, these students are waiting for evening practices or games either as participants or spectators. We do ask that students still in the building after 3:30pm be in designated areas to allow our custodians to properly clean and secure the building. The most common areas where afterschool/evening activities occur are in the Performing Arts and athletic areas, and the rest of the building will be locked and secured each afternoon.
School Hours
Classes begin at 8am and dismissal is at 2:29pm each day barring days with special schedules.
Students should enter through the Cafeteria each morning when arriving before 7:50am.
Between the hours of 7:50am and the 2:29pm dismissal, all entries must be through the Main Entrance.
Students are expected to vacate the building by 3:15pm except for students who remain for extra-curricular activities, library use, teacher assistance, or detention.
Students should obtain their belongings prior to attending afterschool activities as the building will not be accessible.
Students engaging in any extracurricular activities must be under the supervision of a staff member (teacher, coach, advisor).

The Faculty/Staff Member of the Month initiative is designed to recognize outstanding teachers, school counselors, educational assistants, administrative assistants, cafeteria staff, and custodians for their contributions to Canton High School, excellence in and out of the classroom, leadership, innovation, community involvement, dedication, and support for CHS students. One faculty/staff member will be recognized each month during the school year.

Canton High School would like to stress that the real tribute of this award is the nomination, which symbolizes the esteem and appreciation our community has for CHS faculty and staff.

CHS Traffic Patterns, Parking and Student Drop-off/Pick-up
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
The driveway in front of the Rodman Building is the bus drop-off and pick-up route. Personal vehicles are not allowed to use that driveway during those times.
CHS student drop-off/pick-up is in the U-shaped driveway across from the tennis courts. Vehicles can access that driveway from both directions and exit quickly and safely after drop-off. Students can certainly meet their rides in the driveway leading up to the loop if that's easier but we do not allow vehicles to enter the parking lots to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Student Parking
Student parking is by assignment only and for 11th and 12th graders. Students must display their parking pass in a way that is clearly visible when on campus. Parking is not allowed in the staff lots or in the main Legion parking lot. This information was reviewed with all students during our opening class meetings.
