Final Exams and Trimester Transition
This week (February 26 – 29) is the final week of our second trimester at Bloomer High School. Students will be taking final exams on Wednesday, February 28 (periods 1-3-5) and Thursday, February 29 (periods 2-4-6). Students will have some type of culminating assessment in each of their classes – an exam, project, portfolio, presentation, etc. Please reinforce the importance of preparation for final exams with your child(ren). We hope that this experience helps prepare all students for post-secondary success, regardless of their path after high school.
Monday, March 11 marks the first day of our third and final trimester of the 2023-2024 school year. We will not be mailing hard copies of report cards home to parents. Instead, they will be available to view in Skyward Family Access on Friday, March 15. If you would like a hard copy mailed to you, please contact Mrs. Schultz in the main office.
ACT Plus Writing Exam for Juniors
As part of the Wisconsin Student Assessment System, all juniors in the State of Wisconsin are required to take the ACT Plus Writing exam. This will be taking place at Bloomer High School on Wednesday, March 13. A letter with specific information was recently mailed home to parents/guardians of juniors. Attendance on that day is mandatory for juniors. The results of this assessment assist us in measuring our students’ academic achievement and Career and College Readiness. Please reinforce the importance of the ACT Plus Writing exam with your children, along with their attendance on this testing day. For their efforts, all juniors will be excused for the afternoon on Wednesday, March 13 when testing has been completed. They are usually done with the exam around 12:30 p.m.
Virtual Learning Day for Grades 9, 10 and 12 on March 13
As noted above, all juniors will be taking the ACT Plus Writing exam on Wednesday, March 13. On that day, all freshmen, sophomores and seniors will have virtual learning activities through Google Classroom and will not be required to attend school in person that day. Any students who do not have internet access at home are welcome to come to school and work in the LMC. We will send out a reminder of the plans for this day on Monday, March 11. Feel free to contact the high school office with any questions.
Laude System
Beginning with the graduating Class of 2023, Bloomer High School implemented the use of a Laude System to recognize student achievement at Graduation. Rather than identify class rank, students will be recognized using the criteria outlined below. This will be included on students’ transcripts to support their applications for post-secondary education. While class rank will no longer be calculated or displayed on students’ transcripts, that information can be obtained from Student Services if needed for scholarship applications. The Academic Excellence Scholarship, given by the State of Wisconsin, is awarded to the student with the highest GPA in the graduating class.
Cumulative GPA of 3.50-3.74 Cum Laude Distinction
Cumulative GPA of 3.75-3.99 Magna Cum Laude Distinction
Cumulative GPA of 4.00 Summa Cum Laude Distinction

JUNIORS
ACT Testing
The state of Wisconsin will require all high school juniors to take the ACT this spring. Student scores will be used to measure student academic performance and rate schools on the State School Report Card. ACT results will also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and to identify students who need assistance with certain subject areas or academic skills. Juniors this year will be taking the ACT online on March 13th. Students will not pay to take the ACT on this required state testing date.
In addition, the ACT is universally accepted for college admission. A student’s ACT scores, high school grades, academic preparation, out-of-class accomplishments are all considered by college admissions offices. Colleges consider the student’s highest score therefore many students choose to take the ACT again. Those that choose to take the ACT again will need to register on the ACT website, www.actstudent.org, and will be required to pay the fees set by ACT. A school code is required to complete the registration process, the BHS school code is 500-235.
Junior Planning Night
Junior Planning Night will be taking place on March 25th at 6:00pm in the high school commons. The goal of this event is to provide necessary information before students begin their senior year. This is an opportunity for you and your student to explore the many options available to them after high school as well as steps to help them reach those goals. Your involvement in this night is very important!
This night is specifically designed for students and parents/guardians in planning for the final year of high school and beyond graduation, discussing the timeline for upcoming events, and sharing any information needed to make the transition as smooth as possible. This night is for all juniors, not only students that intend to pursue higher education.
Topics covered will include: Transcript Review - Graduation Requirements, Postsecondary Options, Senior Year Course Planning, Requesting Transcripts through Parchment, PreACT Results/ACT Information, Xello (Career Exploration Tool), Campus Visits (When/How), Scholarships/Financial Aid, and Helpful Websites/Resources.

Placement Testing
Students needing to take placement exams before they register for college classes next year, you’ll need to register for your placement test dates ahead of time. Registration opens in mid-March for students who are admitted for the Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 terms. Placement tests take place in spring and summer. If you’re unable to take them during the times offered, contact the campus you plan to attend. Your admissions letter should state who to contact in this situation and list which tests you need to take.
