Celebrations & Well Wishes: The Jewish High Holidays
Just a note of celebration and well wishes for our Jewish community members who celebrate the New Year (Rosh Hashanah) starting at sundown today, September 15 and who observe Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) starting at sundown on Sunday, September 24.
These together are part of what are called the high holidays in Judaism. While both are not celebratory holidays, we wish our Jewish friends all the best as they come together with others of their faith to be together at this time of the year.
Mexican Independence Day!
Another rich part of our community are our families who hail from Mexico and celebrate Mexican Independence Day which is officially September 16.
Marking the famous El Grito Dolores, the event that kicked off the rebellion that led to Mexican Indepdendence from Spain, September 16 is a day of festivals, parades, and celebration.
After reviewing three possible providers this year, Administration decided to continue our partnership with Lurie's Children's Hospital to provide puberty and sex education for our students in the appropriate grade levels. (4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th)
Be on the lookout for more information from the principals, including a ZOOM link, for an information session on September 28th for interested parents and guardians, where a Lurie's rep will review what is covered in their sessions with our students. Parents/guardians can always opt out their students from class during these sessions.
