Principal's Greeting
It was another busy week at CRMS. We hosted our rising 5th graders from all of our feeder elementary school on Monday, we administered two days of MAP testing to our students on Wednesday and Thursday, we had a PTO Spirit Night on Wednesday, but two of the best events of the week were our first Girls Night Out and the announcement celebration that our very own Chloe Spitzer is a top 5 finalist for Charleston County Teacher of the Year!
Our Girls Night was the brainchild of Ms. McKendry, 7th grade Assistant Principal, but the event wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of the planning committee, which included parent volunteers. Thank you to Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Myers, Mrs. Alexander, and Mrs. Greene for planning and putting together this event. The evening kicked off with a panel of inspirational, local female speakers. Mrs. Jessica Beran, founder and owner of Dance Moves of Charleston, Emily Steele, co-founder of Girls Gone Buff, Tirieka Brown, CCSD School Psychologist & owner of Good Deeds Behavioral Health Services, and CeCe Armstrong, Associate Pastor at St. James Presbyterian Church and Mentor/Motivator Vision Empowerment Instructor. Thank you to these strong female members of our community for speaking life into our Camp Road girls and their female family members.
Today we had the pleasure of celebrating our Camp Road Teacher of the Year as she was announced as one of the top 5 finalists for CCSD Teacher of the Year. We are so incredibly proud of Ms. Spitzer and all of her accomplishments. For those of you that don't know Ms. Spitzer, she is our phenomenal Band Director. This is her third year at Camp Road, and she has worked diligently to grow the band program. She and her Honor Band were recently awarded a Superior rating on their CPA. Ms. Spitzer puts her students first and goes above and beyond to teach and support them. She is always willing to help the school in any way she can. Ms. Spitzer, we are so lucky to have you! CRMS Families, please join me in sending a huge congratulations to Ms. Spitzer!
Ms. Rowehl

Summer Camps!
The Junior Counselor Leadership Program through Charleston County Parks and Recreations is looking for dedicated teens between the ages of 13- 16 to assist with our Explorers Camp for the upcoming summer. Accepted applicants receive a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and learning while having a positive impact on local kids. Junior counselors will spend days assisting in camp activities like crabbing, nature discovery, canoeing, arts & crafts, and games. Junior Counselors are mentored by staff to aid in development of leadership qualities such as public speaking, confidence, organization and more. We offer this program at their different park locations: James Island, Mount Pleasant’s Palmetto Islands, or North Charleston’s Wannamaker County Parks.

Mental Health Minute
What is mental health?
Your mental health includes your social, emotional, and psychological well-being. What does this mean exactly? Your social well-being involves developing and nurturing relationships. These relationships can be with your family, your friends, your teammates, or your coworkers. Developing and maintaining healthy relationships makes you feel loved, valued, connected, appreciated, brings you enjoyment, and also provides a sense of belonging. Try a new sport, volunteer at your local foodbank, share your musical talent at a nursing home, join a new club, or start a new hobby to make new friends at any age and give your social well-being a boost!
Emotional well-being is your ability to develop positive emotions, moods, thoughts, and feelings, handle stress, and adapt to difficult situations. By developing your emotional well-being, you are able to better respond to stressful events rather than just react to them. When something difficult comes up, try to take a few deep breaths, ground yourself (focus on the floor under your feet), and take a few minutes to collect yourself. Remember that acronym T.H.I.N.K.? Is what I am saying True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind? Pausing to T.H.I.N.K. before you respond to a stressful situation can give you the time you need to respond thoughtfully and rationally. You can also try journaling to express, explore, and manage your emotions which can then help you decide how to respond to stressful situations.
Your psychological well-being refers to how you function with respect to your feelings. This can include happiness and positive emotions, having a positive attitude about yourself, how you manage your everyday life, having positive relationships, personal growth and self-improvement, working on goals (sense of purpose), and a sense of independence. Psychological well-being is about feeling good and functioning well. To take care of your psychological well-being, you can practice good habits like eating healthy, exercising, getting good sleep, and drinking enough fluids. You can also use relaxing activities like breathing exercises, meditation, and journaling to help manage stress and emotions. Focusing on gratitude, positive thoughts, setting goals, making priorities, maintaining healthy relationships, and staying connected with friends and family all will help keep your psychological well-being in tip top shape.
Be kind to yourself. Your mental health is a priority, and remember, it’s ok to ask for help. There are a lot of people, like teachers, counselors, friends, family, and doctors, who can help you find the resources you need. For more information on caring for your mental health, please visit https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/caring-for-your-mental-health.
