Eastview is kicking off our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Tuesday, September 28th at 7:00pm in the EVHS Learning Commons. We will be showing the Disney-Pixar film, Coco. It’s a story about an aspiring musician, Miguel, who is confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music and enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer. The event is open to all Eastview students; no pre-registration is necessary. Watch for more Hispanic Heritage Month celebration events to follow.

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

On WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2021, Juniors at EVHS are encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT exam. (High achieving Sophomores are also encouraged to take the PSAT as practice only.) The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) provides feedback about college-readiness, is excellent practice for the SAT, and is also used by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to determine National Merit Scholarship recipients in the class of 2023.

Test Date: Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Time: 8:00-11:45 a.m.

Location: Eastview High School

Registration opens Wednesday, September 8th and closes Friday, October 1st, or when registration is full.

The cost is $25.00. Registration and payment must be made through MyPaymentsPlus.

IMPORTANT: After you have registered, you must come to the Counseling office during 5th period to see Joan Beckmann. She will verify your PSAT registration and payment and you will be able to pick up your PSAT Official Student Guide. Your test site location will be communicated via email by Thursday, October 7th.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

VARSITY SPORTS

GIRLS SWIM & DIVE

Eastview Girls Swim and Dive were ELECTRIC against the Farmington Tigers Thursday night. The girls swam strong with many hard fought, nail-biting finishes!

In the Varsity 200 Free, 1st went to Stella Bushard (9th) and 2nd to Emma Vogen (11th). Senior Elsa Reilly took 2nd in the 500 Freestyle, and Senior Kamya Chakravarthi posted a best time! Rachel Hutchins (9th) shone bright, taking 1st in the Varsity 100 Free, with Sophia Schwie (12th) close on her heels in 3rd, and Kaia Churness (9th) posting a best time. Emma Vogen swam her heart out in the Varsity 100 Fly, tying for 1st place , with additional strong finishes from Grace Stirratt (9th) and Madalyn Lindgren (9th)! Swimming the Varsity 200 IM, Rachel Huthchins (9th) took 1st, and Hannah Dubbe (10th) posted a best time in 4th place.

There was a strong showing from JV in the 200 IM as well, with Kaitlyn Mello (11th) taking 1st with a best time, and Emma Patterson (9th) taking 2nd. Keira Peterson (9th) swam hard in the JV 50 Free, taking 1st, followed close behind by Marissa Montesinos (9th) in 3rd place. Way to go, ladies!

FOOTBALL Congrats to the Junior Varsity football team for earning their 3rd win of the season and defeating White Bear Lake 39-32!

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Boys volleyball has open gym again this Sunday night from 6-8 pm in the south gym. Come check it out if you want to learn more or you want to play next spring!

The Marching Band charged audience and judges with their performance Saturday afternoon at the Rosemount Marching Band Festival. The EVMB earned 1st place in Class AAA for their “Electrified” show performance as well as bringing home Outstanding Hornline, Outstanding Drum Major, and Outstanding Soloist-performed by Carmen Pasquerella.

The Marching Band’s next performance is Saturday, October 2nd, in Sioux Falls, SD.

Join Mock Trial!

What is Mock Trial? Mock Trial is a reenactment of a court case that was really tried in Minnesota. We have attorneys and witnesses on our team who compete against other schools in front of real lawyers and judges. We would love to see you there!! No commitment necessary.

All FCCLA members and those interested in joining this year may come and get paperwork and turn in dues from Ms. Battistone in C138. There is a sign up on the wall for Feed My Starving Children on October 7th at 7pm and October 18th at 5pm in Eagan. There is also a sign up to bring treats for Desserts By FCCLA on October 7th. Please attend our October meeting on the 12th at 6:00pm in C139 and bring a friend.

Attention Skiers and Snowboarders: It’s time to start planning for the annual ski and snowboard trip. Looking for a fun way to earn some extra money and make an impact on lots of children in our community? The Community Education Aquatics Program is looking for those that are comfortable with their own swimming abilities to help teach swim lessons.
