January Newsletter
Note from the Middle School Principal
Good afternoon FHUMS Families,
Pretty wild winter weather so far! Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. There are many exciting things happening. Winter athletics and clubs are well under way. Additionally, we are excited that the first session of Lifetime Activities is beginning this week. We hope to offer a second session later this spring and possibly a third at the end of the year.
This time around we offered: Books vs. Movies, Cake Decorating, Fair Haven Fitness, Frolf, Keep Calm, Loom Knitting, Music Video, Net Sports and Paracord, Wonderful World of Games and Woodworking. Students chose their top 3 from the list and then were placed in one of their top 3 choices. They will participate in that activity for the three Friday afternoons that make up Session 1 ~ 1/19, 1/26, 2/2 ~ after lunch until regular dismissal time. We are grateful to our staff who go above and beyond to coordinate the planning and implementation of these activities. Behavior expectations during these activities is the same as a regular school day. This is a great time for students to build relationships with peers and adults they may not be in classes with.
Permission slips are required only for the activities that are leaving campus:
Week 1 - FHF
Week 2 - FHF, Music Video, Frolf
Week 3 - FHF, Music Video
Fifty of our 8th grade students have been chosen randomly by the NAEP organization to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress. This means that those 50 students will take a reading or math assessment on February 5th. The test usually takes about 2 hours. The assessment is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. If your child was one of the 50 selected, you have received a letter in the mail.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Jennefer Paquette

Lifetime Activities, Day 1, Session 1
This afternoon was the first day of Session 1 of Lifetime Activities. We had to adjust a bit for a variety of reasons. Frolf, which was outdoors, had to come in frequently for warm-up breaks due to temperatures. The fitness group did not make the walk to Fair Haven Fitness but instead took time to discuss proper weightlifting technique and made use of the weight room here at FHU.
