From the School Nurse
Hello Edgelea families,
I continue to encourage families to incorporate healthy habits at home. Eating healthy, to getting a good amount of sleep each night, maybe even including a vitamin daily with breakfast. We continue to use Universal Precautions in the building. Washing hands numerous times a day, our custodial staff along with all other staff is excellent in keeping the class rooms clean and wiped down. If your child is feeling unwell please keep home to further evaluate.
We continue with masks not being mandated. Your child is more than welcome to wear one if that is what is preferred. As of now, if your child tests positive for covid, they will need to stay home 5 days from the start date of symptoms. On days 6-10 a mask will need to be worn in the building for child to return. We are not close contacting or quarantining siblings at this time. We will update parents as things change throughout the year.
Please make sure all vaccines are up to date. These will be needed by October 14th, if noncompliant child will be excluded from school until issue resolved. Health department can assist with vaccines, 765-423-9222. Riggs Community Health is another place to receive vaccines 765-742-1567. There are Religious/Medical exemptions that can be signed if the reasoning behind child not receiving vaccine.
The nurses office is very grateful with all of the clothing donations it receives. We are currently in need of boys’ and girls’ pants, sizes 6-12. Winter coats, hats, and gloves are welcome since the weather is changing on us.
Please make sure your child is wearing some type of jacket/sweatshirt in the morning. It is still chilly outside for out kindergarten and first grade when they go out for recess. I know it is warmer by the end of the day and the jacket can then be put in book bag to take home.
Thank you all for your help!
Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Reading Expectations
All Edgelea students should spend 20 minutes a night either reading or being read to...or a combination. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS READING 20 MINUTES NIGHTLY!
Please continue to encourage your child to read ALL SUMMER long. It makes a HUGE difference in their reading skills/levels. Consider visiting the Edgelea library and the public library. Children love books and it is a FREE activity. Show your children that you love books, too. It is a "life-changer" but the time to start is NOW. Often parents wonder, "what can I do to help my child succeed?" This is the answer. Read to your children. Have them read. Share the love of reading with them. It makes school and learning so much easier and enjoyable. Set them up for SUCCESS!

Every School Day Counts
Why does attendance matter? A lot of research has been done and the findings are not surprising! Students who attend school regularly are able to learn more, have fewer discipline problems, develop better study habits and often are more successful than students who do not.
The last few years, due to Covid, we were much more relaxed regarding attendance. However, this year, we will strictly be following LSC policy regarding attendance.
Our goal is to work together with families to help improve attendance. Please help your child have the opportunity to become academically successful by having them at school on time each and every day. It's one of the most important things you can do for your child!
- Anytime a student has an exempt absence, the documentation must be brought to the school to be filed within three school days of the students return.
- After a student has reached 6 absences, the parents will receive an attendance letter from the principal notifying the parent of attendance concerns. “Exempt” absences identified in 1-13 above in this section do not count toward this total of 6 absences.
- After the student has reached 9 absences, the principal will send notification to the Office of Elementary Education.Parents will be notified of the state attendance law and further actions that may be taken if attendance problems continue.Parents are expected to contact the school principal to set up a conference regarding their student’s attendance. The principal may report the student’s absences to Truancy Mediation for further action. “Exempt” Absences identified in 1-13 above in this section do not count toward this total of 9 absences.
- Habitual absences, 12 or greater, will be reported to the Truancy Mediation Officer (Truancy Mediation – Tippecanoe County Superior Court #3) for the consideration of the juvenile court. It will also be filed with Child Protective Services as possible educational neglect. A child can be retained and not promoted to the next grade level.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! We can't teach your children if they are not here!
