Peer tutoring is available on Wednesdays in the Learning Commons after school! Math peer tutors will be available from 2:30-3:30. You can get support for math homework- bring your questions or assignments to work on with a peer tutor and/or small group.

Graduating seniors are invited to attend the 2023 All-Night Senior Party, a chemical free, lock-in which takes place the night of graduation, Saturday June 3rd, 2023 from 10:00 pm – 4:00am at EVHS.

Each year the All-Night Senior Party is a highlight for the graduating seniors with at least 80% of the class attending. This is an “Everything Included” night of fun! The Eastview High School College Planning Night will take place on Thursday, March 9th at 6:30 PM in the Student Commons area.

This seminar is very timely for families of juniors. This informational seminar outlines the process for planning and preparing for a post-high school education.

Topics include: EVHS graduation requirements, college visits, choosing a college, college requirements, ACT and SAT testing, and the necessary timelines in the application process. The powerful tools of NAVIANCE, a web-based college and career program, will also be shared.

Students and families are welcome to attend a free Minnesota Education Fair Sponsored by MACAC, Minnesota Association for College Admission Counseling, on Wednesday, February 22nd from 4:30-6 PM at Apple Valley High School.

Visit with representatives from 100 colleges, universities, community colleges, technical colleges, and specialty schools. For a complete list of schools at each fair, visit www.mn-acac.org.

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows highly motivated 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level courses. With traditional PSEO, these courses are generally offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online. The cost of tuition, course fees, and textbooks is covered by the Minnesota Department of Education.

We will be hosting a required PSEO information session for any current 10th and 11th grade student interested in pursuing PSEO for the 2023-2024 school year on any of the following dates/times:

March 7th at 2:40pm in C250

March 8th at 7:10 in C250

March 8th in the counseling office during your lunch

Students should still register for a full year of EVHS classes for the 2023-2024 school year even if they plan on taking PSEO classes. The MN State Department of Education deadline for notifying EHS about your intention to participate in PSEO is May 30th.

This February, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Minnesota Department of Education, ECMC's The College Place Minnesota, and Minnesota Goes to College are launching a series of financial aid webinars for Minnesota students and families as they prepare for the college-going process. All sessions will have simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, Somali, and Hmong. Attendees will be entered to win a $500 scholarship.

The series, which runs February 7 through 28, will focus on a variety of topics, including general financial aid information, details on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Minnesota Dream Act for undocumented students, and other ways to pay for college.

The Eagan Community Foundation scholarship application process IS NOW OPEN and will close the evening of February 24th at 11:59 PM. They will be awarding roughly 110 scholarships totaling over $120,000.

Every student is encouraged to submit an application! Awards are based on a variety of criteria including community involvement, those with military parents, those who have persevered through hardships in life, participation in sports and school activities, academic merit and financial need. Only scholarships that are based on financial need require a copy of the front page of your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA. Be sure and file your FAFSA by the scholarship deadline.

On Tuesday, April 4th all 10th and 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take the Pre-ACT (10th) and ACT (11th) test at Eastview High School. Students in 10th and 11th grade will report to school at their regularly scheduled time. Students in grades 9 and 12 will access instruction asynchronously.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20/30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

This is a one time change to captains practice - the next one will be Sunday February 19 7 PM to 8:30 PM at Lakeville Lifetime.

Any boys interested in playing tennis this spring: captains practices have started every Saturday from 7-8:30am at Lakeville Lifetime. There will be an informational meeting for all (non- returning) boys wanting to try out for the golf team this spring on Thursday, February 23rd at 2:35 in room C250. Topics for discussion include pre-season preparation, captain’s practices, tryout schedule and much more. Tryouts begin Monday, March 20th. If you are unable to make the meeting but would like more information please see Coach Wanous in the Counseling office, Coach Wagner in A201 or Coach Monroe in the phy-ed office.

Anyone interested in playing baseball this spring is welcome to come workout at Open Gym in the Main and South Gyms at EVHS on the following Sunday nights:

Eastview High School Girls Junior Varsity Basketball beat Farmington High School 58-41 2/15

The JV Girls Basketball team beat Farmington last night by a score of 58-41.

Eastview High School Girls Junior Varsity Basketball beat Lakeville North High School 54-43 2/14

The JV Girls Basketball team defeated Lakeville North by a score of 55-42. 17 assists and balanced scoring led to the victory

The JV Girls Basketball team's record climbed to 20 and 0 with a 67-34 victory over Burnsville Friday night.

Eastview Boys Varsity Hockey vs. the Lakeville South Cougars – February 16, 2023

Eastview was looking to even the season series with the Cougars on Thursday evening at the Apple Valley Sports Arena. The Lightning opened the scoring at 1:32 on the power play (PP) when Jordan Brothers #11 scored with assists to Kevin Woehler #24 and Logan Opgrand #2. The score remained 1-0 until late in the 1st period when Caleb Nelson #20 scored an even strength goal at 16:49 with a lone assist to Logan Opgrand #2. The 1st period ended with the Cougars outshooting the Lightning 11-6, but trailing 0-2. The Lightning extended the lead to 3-0 at 2:51 of the 2nd period, when John Kisch #5 scored an even strength goal, taping in a rebound, with assists to Brayden Kaldenbach #7 and Zach Wooten #9. The Cougars scored a PP goal at 4:40 to cut the lead to 3-1, but the Lightning went back up 4-1 at 9:52 on the PP when Kevin Woehler #24 scored with assists to Logan Opgrand #2 and Jordan Brothers #11. Lakeville South cut the lead to 4-2 at 14:08 on an even strength goal to finish the 2nd period scoring. Shots in the 2nd period were 15-12 in favor of Eastview, but the Cougars held the shot advantage for the game at 23-21. The Lightning scored the only goal of the 3rd period at 1:16 on the PP, when Brayden Kaldenbach #7 scored with assists to Billy Downs #23 and Nick Karam #16, making the final score 5-2. Shots in the 3rd period were 8-6 in favor of the Cougars. Final shots for the game were 31-27 for the Cougars. Huge win for the Lightning, knocking off the South Suburban Division Champs 5-2 and improving their record to 15-9 for the season. Goalie Jay Svaren #32 was solid in net, stopping 29 shots. The Lightning wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Shakopee and then prepare for sectional play next week.

Eastview Boys Varsity Hockey vs. the Apple Valley Burnsville Eagles – February 14, 2023

The Lightning were looking to sweep the season series with the Eagles. Senior goalie Blake Jensen #29 got his first varsity start in net. After a scoreless first period in which each team had 11 shots on goal, the Lightning opened the scoring at 9:20 of the 2nd period when John Kisch #5 scored an even strength goal with assists to Jordan Brothers #11 and Graham Ellingson #22. Eastview went up 2-0 at 13:30 of the 2nd period when Zach Wooten #9 scored on a break away with assists to Jordan Brothers #11 and Logan Opgrand #2. Shots on goal were 9 to 7 in favor of Eastview, with the Lightning leading in shots for the game at 20-18. The Eagles came out strong in the third period, outshooting the Lightning 14-6, and scoring their first goal of the game at 4:28 on a tip in front of the Eastview net cutting the lead to 2-1. Jordan Brothers #11 scored an unassisted even strength goal at 14:48 making the score 3-1 Eastview. The Lightning scored an empty net goal at 16:59 when Zach Wooten #9 scored on a feed from Jordan Brothers #11, making the final score 4-1. Senior goalie Blake Jensen #29 made 31 saves ending the game with a .969 save percentage and earning his first win in his first game. Final shots for the game were 32-26 Apple Valley Burnsville. The Lightning improved to 14-9 for the season and are on the ice again Thursday evening against the Lakeville South Cougars.

JV SPORTS

Eastview JV Boys Hockey – February 11th – 16th, 2023

It’s been a busy stretch for the Eastview JV Boys Hockey team. Last Saturday, the Eastview JV team played Lakeville North. Eastview lost a close game 2 to 3. Dustin Biros scored first with assists from Ethan Hansen and Louis Rogers in the 3rd period and Tae Kalthoff also scored with an assist from Isaac Berberena but it wasn’t enough to get past Lakeville North. Kaden Goff had 18 saves on 21 shots.

The second game was on Tuesday when the JV team took on Apple Valley. Kaden Goff was in net and faced 26 shots. It was scoreless after the first period. In the 2nd period, Isaac Berberena tied up the game with an assist from Austin Meyer. In the 3rd period Apple Valley scored again and also got an empty net goal with the game ending 1 to 3, Apple Valley.

Last night, the JV team played Lakeville South. Ty Young was in net. After the 1st period, Lakeville South was ahead 0 to 1. In the 2nd period, Lakeville South scored 4 times. Eastview got on the board with a goal from Jaymeson Zackery and an assist from Ethan Hansen but the JV boys were not able to score again despite having 26 shots on net. The game ended 1 to 7, Lakeville South. Young faced 29 shots. The Eastview Boys Hockey team will head to the Shakopee Ice Arena on Saturday. Game time for JV is 11:30.

RUGBY

Rugby registration is open for our Girls and Boys high school teams.

Our Varsity Girls are looking to defend their State Championship, and our Varsity Boys are continuing to rebuild after our 2021 State Championship and once again expect to compete at the top.

NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. In rugby, everybody plays, everybody carries the ball, and everybody tackles. Rugby suits all body shapes and sizes, and teaches explosiveness, decision-making, and agility. Rugby is the only spring sport that teaches safe and highly effective tackling to improve HS football player performance and avoid injury. We are an ISD 196 club sport, meaning Varsity players may earn their letter.

Practice begins on March 1st (8:30PM @TCO Dome-Lakeville North) and the season runs through the end of the school year. Our Eastview Mock Trial team competed in round five of Regions last night defeating a tough Parnassus Prep. team. Eastview went 5 and 0 in Regions and are heading to state in two weeks. Team members are: Anna Singh, Raavi Singh, Ian Machalek, Shruti Chandrasekar, Ebrahim Mohamed, Momo Lee, Cora Budziszewski, Mia Noonan, Akshara Ande. The team is coached by Jeff Anderson and Scott Oxley.

District 196 Moving Forward with May 9 Bond Referendum Election: Two-Question Special Election Addresses District’s Facilities and Equipment Needs

District 196 School Board on Monday unanimously approved a resolution calling for a two-question bond referendum election on May 9, 2023, to address the district’s facilities and equipment needs for the next 10 years and beyond.

That was the recommendation of the administration and members of a Facilities and Equipment Steering Committee that conducted a comprehensive review of the district’s facilities and equipment needs over the last year and a half. The committee developed a facilities master plan and recommended the first phase of improvements to address needs in the areas of safety, security and supervision; space for growth, and providing students and families a more consistent experience in facilities across the district.

The proposed improvements were presented as preliminary recommendations at the Nov. 14 School Board meeting. They were then presented for public input during three nights of focus group dialogues in November, and online via a form on the district website. Learn more.
